Seven Hills is a small town located in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,573 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1821 by Ezra Cornell and others as a post office on the Scioto River. In 1827, Seven Hills became a county seat of Summit County. The name of the town has been changed several times since its founding (most recently to Hillcrest). The first settlers in Seven Hills were Ezra Cornell and his sons Isaac and Nathan. However, because it was not yet authorized by Congress to be called “Ohio” (the name chosen for Columbus), Cleveland reverted back to its original self-designation of “Seven Hills” after only six months in operation. In 1830, while living in Seven Hills with his wife Lavinia and three children under five years old, Hiram Bingham established himself as one of America’s leading business leaders by opening what would become Bingham Cigar Manufacturing Company which exported cigars around the world until 1913. Other early businesses that flourished in Seven Hills included: A & W Grocery Store (1835), George Stephenson Cotton Mills (1839), Joice Hottie Restaurant (1845), Mrs Kapp Brewing Company (1846/47) and Masonic Lodge No 2 – located on Green Street across from A & W Grocery Store – which served refreshments during meetings of local lodge members until 1955 when it closed down due to Prohibition laws being passed without input from local officials responsible for running this unique community institutionito
