Seven Hills, Ohio is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,044 at the 2010 census and 6,951 at the 2013 estimate. It is part of the Dayton–Canton–Middletown, OH metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1814 by Colonel Gideon Welles as a frontier trading post on Big Beaver Creek (now Beaver Run). In 1847, Seven Hills became part of the newly formed Cincinnati-Warren- sporting goods town and was renamed after seven hills near Cincinnati – Summit Hill (now Xavier University), Lebanon Hill (now Case Western Reserve University), Montrose Hill (now Miami University), Northfield Hill (now Wright State University), Middlebury Hill (now Vassar College), and Southfield Hills (now Ballston Spa). With growth in the mining and manufacturing industries during the 20th century, Seven Hills annexed more lands until its current boundaries were established in 1960. The name "Seven Hills" has been used to refer to both its original core community of business districts within what are today its limits as well as to portions of Dayton within those limits which have since become independent municipalities; these include: Elmira Heights, Fairview Heights, Highland Heights, Horizon View Heights/Emmonsburg/Bellefontaine Township/Fremont Township/, Knoxville Heights/New Castle Junction/Ligonier Township/, Meadowlark Township/, Newmarket Township/. Seven Hills, Ohio is a village in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2000 census. The Village of Seven Hills was organized on October 12, 1879. The first post office in the village was established in 1881. In 1902 Seven Hills won the right to be part of the Akron-Canton metropolitan area and has since continued to grow. The Village of Seven Hills is located on the east side of town between U.S 20 and I-675. It is bordered by the villages of Wellshire to the south and west, Eagleville to the north and east, and Kenton Heights to the north-east. According to legend, Native Americans called this area "Bushy Hill" because there were many trees here that grew high enough for people to see over their heads from where they lived. However there is no evidence that this ever happened; all references are to Seven Hills being founded as a village by land grant from Ulysses S Grant in 1879 which may date back further than that! The first settler in what would become Seven Hills was James Auld who came over with his family in 1840 from Scotland via Canada. James built a cabin on Bushy Hill near present day Park Avenue which still stands today as a reminder of his early days here! Another early settler was John Dillenberger who arrived some time before Thanksgiving 1861 aboard an American steamboat coming downriver from Cincinnati! He had been traveling through central Ohio looking for new land when he saw an opportunity for purchase at Bushy Hill - allotted land along present day US 20/I-675! Unfortunately it wasn't long until other developers began building up around Bushy Hill so James sold his property back to George Washington Wilson (the next owner) but kept Bushy Hill himself for himself! In 1862 Jens Rasmussen bought one hundred acres at Bushy Hill just northwest of present day Park Avenue from George Washington Wilson - making him one of earliest settlers hereabouts! This particular location would later become known as Rasmussen's Corner due settlement activity happening nearby then and also because it offered more fertile soil than elsewhere around town!. By 1865 Rasmussen had two families settled here - his wife Rasmusdatter (who would eventually give birth to twins) along with her husband Peder Rasmussen (nephew of Jens). They continued living here until their deaths in 1893 & 1912 respectively!!! From 1865 onward things changed quite rapidly within Seven Hills as groups started moving into various parts of Stark County including: New Brighton Landing aka Northside Landing about 6 miles northeast on I-80 about 5 miles southwest off US 21/I-675 just outside today's limits of Seven Hills proper!! This growth spurt followed what seems like pattern across much rural Stark County during this period leading up towards both industrialization & urbanization!! What we now know as 7 hills actually sprang up largely thanks largely to Hardesty’s Tobacco Factory situated directly across historic Delaware Street adjacent today’s parade grounds!! Finally after years Of hard work by numerous individuals including Wm Hardesty himself Little did We anticipate But….. Today we enjoy some truly beautiful settings within our boundaries !! Some researchers claim Boardman’s Corners could possibly predate even these Ruins if not older however definitive proof will never be found……... So while we often take notice Of vandalism or anti colonialism taking place Within our borders Things really must remain relatively unaffected...... For those reasons alone We can safely say That OurVillage constituings has endured And thrived greatly During These Many Years !!
