The early settlers were farmers and their families lived on strips of land grant from the United States government. One such grant was for five miles extending from where Park Road meets I-75 south to just east of present day Uniontown Heights/Rochester Township line. This grant covered most of present day Seven Hills and parts of Rochester Township as well as much of become today’s Dayton area adjacent to Youngstown and Ross Township including Mechanicsburg and Bellefontaine municipalities which are still located within current boundaries of Seven Hills township today but then connected with those areas by roads or railroads when developed during the late 19th century through annexation or compacting various townships into one entity over timeagreements with other jurisdictions (e.g., Lancaster, Findlay, Greenfield). Erected in memory of our fallen soldiers who gave their lives for our country – many aged 70 years or more – 7 large granite tablets bearing names engraved therein stand upon a knoll overlooking Herndon Creek; these tablets date back to 1922 when Mrsgrace Biddle erected them following an appeal by Mrs William Hickey (wife of Major Elisha Biddle) during World War I while her son serving overseas with Company C 11th US Artillery Battalion
