In 1829 Laughlin built the first store and sawmill in what is now town - it still stands today as a property owned by the Laughlin family until it passed down to their son John Daugherty who sold it to George Ahern in 1952. In 1849 John HAWKINS moved from Erie County to take up land grants offered by President Zachary Taylor that were part of the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). Seven Hills is a village in Summit Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The Village of Seven Hills was organized on November 1, 1814 from portions of the township of Highland Heights. The first land in what is now Seven Hills was surveyed by John Stephenson in 1788 and bought by Peter Collingwood. Collingwood's heirs sold most of their holdings to the town trustees on December 20, 1814. On January 6, 1815, the first house in Seven Hills was built by Elijah Churchman and Solomon Lovell. In 1835-36 Daniel Webster built a sawmill on Mill Creek (now Muskegon Heights Boulevard). The mill closed around 1865 but it reopened as a grocery store in 1870 under the name "Webster's Grocery". In 1895 it became known as "Harrison's Woolen Mills". The company went out of business in 1897 and its buildings were replaced by two housing units that remain today as part of Harrison Park neighborhood development project initiated by Mayor Frank Jackson after his election victory in 1997. In 1915-16 seven new homes were built for local farmers who had participated in President Wilson's Four-Year Plan to increase food production throughout America during World War I; these homes are now known as Hillcrest Manor Apartments. The first white settler in Seven Hills Township, Ohio was John White in 1814. The township was organized on November 3, 1824. The first post office in the township was established on January 1, 1830. In 1830, James Hargrave opened a store and tavern at the corner of High Street and Main Street. In 1840, George W. Dunlap settled in Seven Hills Township and soon became one of its most influential citizens. He founded the Dunlap Manufacturing Company, which manufactured goods such as shoes and cattle feed. In 1865, he donated land to build a schoolhouse in Seven Hills Township. The present-day school building was completed in 1909. One of the most significant events to occur within Seven Hills Township occurred during World War II when over two thousand residents served in the military or were drafted into service. Many of these residents built homes for themselves during the war years and continue to live there today.
