A shopping center called Dayton Commons opened in 1984 and has since become one of the largest malls in eastern Ohio. A football stadium named Raymond James Stadium was built adjacent to it in 1999 and is home to the Dayton Flyers football team; it has also been used for other events such as concerts and motor races. In 2007-2008, Seven Hills received attention from developers who were considering building a mixed use development with office space and residences on one side while a sports arena or convention center would be built on the other side across from Interstate 75/State Route 611

In 1810 John Stephenson founded the village of Dayton and laid out streets that would become University Avenue and Second Street. One Hundred years later, on July 8, 1920, Seven Hills became a city with a population of 14,814 when it amalgamated with Dayton to form the Dayton-Dayville metropolitan area. The original homes built in Seven Hills were frame buildings dating back to the 1800s when settlers began moving into this area. Some are still standing today including Our Lady of Mount Carmel School which was built in 1815 and now serves as an elementary school for students from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade as well as Four Corners Catholic Church which was built in 1835 and now serves as a community center for residents of Seven Hills and surrounding neighborhoods. Today's downtown businesses include The Post Office building (now The Amalgamated) which served as headquarters for the United States Postal Service from 1865 until its closure by mail carrier Ameritech after serving as such from 1967 until 1995; Girdner's Department Store which opened on Second Street in 1915; First National Bank (later FirstMeritBank), located at 611 Main Street; Parma Mercantile Company (later Parma Foods); The Record Shop at 327 Main Street; and Stonington Arms Exchange & Gunsmithy store located at 224 Main Street. Downtown also includes several restaurants including Joes Pizza Restaurant (opened 1951), Chili's Mexican Kitchen & Cantina (opened 1985), Tomatoes Donuts & Pancakes House Inc., Five Points Tavern (opened 2008), Seventh Hill Brewing Co., formerly Stonington Arms Exchange & Gunsmithy store #2(formerly known as Gold Star Sporting Goods). In addition to downtown there are several smaller retailers scattered throughout the town including: Bicknell's Hardware Store on Ironton Road east of Third Street; Beasley Brothers Tire & Auto Center on Maplewood Rd.; Bobcats Grocery Cooperative - open since 1922 - replaced by Walmart Neighborhood Market following Walmart's opening across town two blocks away in 1955; Bakewell Drugs - opened 1949 - closed 1993 after many years being one of Dayton’s most popular stores; Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company at 329 Elmira Road just outside town limits - closed 1991 after almost fifty years business while Goodyear Harvester location remains open but privatelyowned today
The first settler in the area was David Humphreys, who arrived in 1786. The first store on the property was built by John Beasley in 1803. In 1815, George Wills purchased Seven Hills from Humphreys. He renamed it after his home of seven hills, England. In 1825, Ohio became a state and Seven Hills became part of the new state. In 1840, Samuel Plank moved to Seven Hills and started a tannery. The town's population grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s as more people came to live and work in Seven Hills; the population reached 10,000 by 1860. Seven Hills experienced significant growth during World War II as thousands of military personnel were stationed here for both combat and training purposes. The town also played an important role in local politics during this time period; many prominent citizens served on city councils or on other municipal bodies throughout the 1940s and early 1960s. After WWII ended,Seven Hills began to decline as its importance decreased relative to larger communities in the area due to various factors including development within nearby towns; however, its economy has continued to improve over recent years thanks to initiatives such as economic development assistance from the municipality itself and support from outside sources such as private donors. Today, Seven Hills is a thriving community with a wide range of businesses and services available for residents along with strong ties to its history and community values
