In 1916 Seven Hills became one of the first townships in Greene County when it was organized following state legislation creating new counties within Greene County. On November 3rd that year it voted to become a city through an act signed by Mayor John Widenheimer after being lobbied by other local municipalities in Greene County including Marietta Heights and Highland Park which also wanted to become cities. What started as just a few homes for workers on Saturday mornings soon turned into what is now known as "theFour Corners shopping district" because so many businesses were established there during those early years: Phelan's Pharmacy (founded 1907), Mrs Haggerty's grocery store (1910), Mr Gorham's dry goods store (1911), King Bros mechanical store(1912) and others later along down memory lane such as Stroud Carpet Merchants (1920). Seven Hills is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River just north of downtown Toledo. The community was originated as two separate settlements: West Seven Hills and East Seven Hills. The first settlers arrived in the early 1840s, and by 1847 there were nine families living in Nine Mile Creek Township. By 1860, there were twenty-four residents living in West Seven Hills and eleven residents living in East Seven Hills. In 1871, the townships were consolidated into Oneida County, and with that change came a new name for the communities - Seven Hills Village. The villages continued to operate separately until 1923 when they merged into one entity under the leadership of Mayor Joseph Laughlin. That year, seven-time winner of the mayoral election Harry Hendershot announced his candidacy for mayor but lost to incumbent John Fenton. He would later become president of Duquesne University and be elected to three terms as mayor from 1959-1967 before retiring at age 80 in 1978. From 1968 through 1976, Tom Foley served as mayor; he was succeeded by his wife Donna Foley after she became a UAW official in 1984. In 2007, Foley was inducted into the Ohio Business Hall of Fame
The first settlers to arrive on the site of present-day Seven Hills, Ohio were James and Susannah White. The town was founded in 1792, by John Snyder and his brother Alexander. The name “Seven Hills” is derived from a hill that overlooks the community. In 1814, the United States Congress passed an act establishing the village of Seven Hills as a part of Hamilton County. However, because of disagreements over its governance, the village failed to gain full recognition until after it was combined with neighboring Uniontown in 1847.
