Sandusky, Ohio is a small town in northern Ohio, located on the southern edge of the Sandusky Peninsula. The population was 9,362 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lucas County metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1814 by John Sandusky and his family as a trading post on the Scioto River. In 1830, it became an all-male settlement when John's brother James Sandusky founded the first church in what is now Sandusky. The town got its name from nearby Summit Hill (now known as Sandusky Heights). In 1868, William Davenport built a sawmill on the Scioto River and started manufacturing lumber for eastern markets. By 1880, there were over 100 businesses in town and it had a flour mill and two grist mills. In 1903, sandersupplies company founded by Abram J. Hargrave arrived in town to help with demand for their products during World War I; this means that until this day, one ofSandusky's most famous landmarks is still standing -the former Hargrave Mill Tower which now houses local community offices and retail shops". The mills closed in 1978 and 1984 due to poor health conditions caused by mercury poisoning from mining operations near Sandusky hills; however they reopened around 1990 as Heritage Paper Mills LLC after being acquired by WL Gore Incorporated who then operated them until 2003 when they were sold to M&M Paper Products Co., Inc.. To date there has been no successful attempt to revive or replace M&M Paper ProductsCo.,Inc.'s aging machinery without taking into account either technological advances or public opinion which seems much against any type of large-scale investment outside of private industry being made here especially given that other large-scale investments have also not panned out including plans to build a hotel/motel near downtown while another large project proposed would see demolition and reconstruction of much older commercial buildings blocking views overlooking downtown from Interstate 270 - essentially reversing Edgewater Place development plan which would've seen more residential development within walking distance since those buildings are no longer hindering access but instead providing valuable land uses like music rehearsal spaces etc... It's interesting to note that despite several unsuccessful attempts brought about by lackadaisical attitudes among both locals and outsiders alike things seemadalready changing with more people starting to get interested in revitalizing/replacing these old facilities rather than just watching them slowly decompose over time - something we can only hope for considering how important these types of investments are not only locally but nationally!

In 1788, George Washington passed through town on his way to battle against British forces at Yorktown. His troops stopping at the local tannery, which was situated on what is now Fourth Street, gave rise to the name “Sandusky” after General Washington’s headquarters. The first school in town was built in 1815 and it became an academy in 1825. By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in Sandusky. However, during the 1830s and 1840s, trade dwindled because of transportation difficulties caused by Indian raids or bad weather conditions. Despite this decline, business continued to improve during Reconstruction when America regained control over her southern border following that time’s civil war (1865-1868). During this time period, many businesses relocated from Philadelphia and other cities due to cheap labor available in America during that time period (known as “the Gilded Age”). After Reconstruction ended with American victory over slavery and Jim Crow laws were implemented nationwide following that time period (1871-1914), business revived thanks to new investment from eastern investors who desired access to cheap labor during that era (known as “the Progressive Era”). Starting around 1920 – specifically –Sandusky began experiencing economic growth due largely to increased output at its quarries due primarily to changes within American society brought about by World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945). Although production at some of these quarries slowed down after 1945 due mainly to technological advances instead of diminished demand from consumers; overall production continued until 2001 when it peaked at approximately 2 million tons per year according during 2003-2006.[1] Due largely à recent industrial developments; sandstone quarrying recommenced again starting 2006 but only producing 500 t/a
