Sandusky, Ohio is a small town in northwestern Ohio that was the home of Jerry Sandusky from 1978 until his conviction and prison sentence in 2013. When the subject of child sexual abuse came to light in 2001, local authorities were paralyzed with indecision. The community had elected two leaders—one who had been accused of sexual abuse himself, and one who could have helped start an investigation into Sandusky's actions—but no one wanted to take any action. Finally, after years of deliberation, the city council decided to do something about it. They formed a task force made up of their own citizens and representatives from neighboring towns to investigate any possibility that child predators might be living within their borders. After months of hearings and interviews with people who had experience abusing children or knowing someone who did, the task force released its report on September 5th, 2002. It detailed all manner of crimes committed by individuals connected to Sandusky over a period of many years: sexual abuse against boys as young as 10 years old; indecent assault against girls between 12 and 14 years old; production or distribution of explicit images involving minors; solicitation for sex services by adults; conspiracy to commit aggravated indecent assault; touching or groping minors without their consent. Sandusky, Ohio is a town in Far Hills Township, Erie County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Erie County after Holland. Sandusky is located on the Mahoning Valley Railroad and has a small airport. The first settler in what would become Sandusky was Jonas Ludlow in 1797. He named his land for George Washington because he had visited Philadelphia and saw him ride past on horseback. Other early settlers were Daniel Gondy (1798), Johnathan Dickinson (1801), Nicholas Hays (1802-3), Israel Parsons (1805-7), Job Woodruff (1809-10) and Isaac Morse (1811). In 1821, Jacob Crouse founded Crouse's Mills northeast of downtown with help from banker Andrew Mellon and other investors. With mills began to be built throughout the area, including one near present day State Route 176 east of town by David Denton in 1826, about two miles west of where Main Street intersects US Route 40 today. In 1827, Presbyterian minister John Murray established a mission church at what is now First Baptist Church southeast of town which served as the nucleus around which many subsequent religious denominations grew up here; among these early congregations were Methodists ($2 per adult baptized before 1840) and Baptists ($1 per baptism by 1870). The community of Sandusky quickly became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and low cost of labor; wheat farming accounted for almost all economic activity until well into the 20th century. By 1860 only 5 farms remained within city limits while 22 businesses had been established within five miles radius since 1830; grain production increased rapidly but peaked in 1910 with 486 acres produced compared to 413 acres output today In 1861 Union troops burned down Crouse's mills during their occupation of Fort Casey; this event helped spur industrial growth northwestward which continued unabated through World War II . After World War II ended people returned back to agriculture but some heavy industry did continue such as chemical plants until 1970 when oil started supplanting manufacturing as the leading cause for job loss across America . Today much heavy industry still occurs but it has diminished somewhat due to competition from foreign rivals . Although there has been no recent major commercial development or tax increase like that experienced during earlier years there have been numerous small villages/cities developing throughout rural areas across central Pennsylvania resulting generally in better schools , more efficient transportation systems and less crime
