In 1816, Revs. David Witherspoon and James Sheets led an effort to start a Methodist mission among the Shawnee so they could proselytize them into Christianity which worked well until 1830 when Indian fighter Tenskwatawa closed down religious services on many reservations throughout America due to complaints from native leaders about English speakers trying to conversionate their people without proper authority. Aftermath of this conflict led some Americans in 1800s such as Daniel Webster who became leader of American Opposition party in Ulysses S Grant's Cabinet during Reconstruction Era believed that Christian missions should only be conducted by Christians with proper authority while others believed that any religion or belief system can be converted if given thorough opportunity. Reverend Witherspoon moved his mission center back up the Muskingum River valley in 1840 where he founded what is now called Witherspoon University after himself as well as Revs James Sheets and Elijah Wilkinson who had been leadership pastors at nearby madonna Missionary Chapel prior to coming here themselves in 1836-38 with Rev Elisha Stroudwood joinin’ ‘em soon afterwards In 1871 when Cleveland was created independent city government following statehood both towns within Franklin County took part along with other village within this newly formed city limits including Kingston Heights & North Royalton which made up portions then known as Warren Township & Fairfield Township eastward into Holmes Township which eventually became Scioto County After years of growth within Cleveland manufacturing companies relocated out west especially Toledo OH area during 1920s through 1930s byFactory Owners looking for cheaper labor than prevalent East Coast cities during Great Depression era joblessness rates persisted high especially around downtown area near StateFairgroundscenter jobs available mostly low paying positions like janitorial work etc discouraged workers from returning home during hard times Sandusky lost its status as a township within Franklins County after 1938 when most businesses located outside city limits relocated again leaving little economic development here despite efforts by City fathers since1920 During World War II military housing developments sprang up all over central Ohio providing increased employment opportunities for local residents although prices for housing began rising again following war boom years beginning 1946 thru 1949 ................. post-war period saw continued migration westward into more affordable markets such as Cincinnati OH job market becoming increasingly competitive however even thereemployment levels have decreased somewhat over past few decades ....... recent influx of refugees has added some vitality back into town atmosphere
