In 1903, the legislature passed Senate Bill 13, which limits taser use to cases of self-defense or when there is an imminent threat of serious bodily harm. The first statewide public demonstration of a Taser occurred on October 11, 1983 in Akron, Ohio at South University Park by retired police officer Rick Majerus using a Taser on a protester who had become agitated after being refused service at a local restaurant.
Salem, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Cuyahoga River north of Cleveland and east of Akron. Salem was founded as a trading post by George Washington in 1788. In 1801 it became the county seat of Stark County. In 1837 it was renamed Salem-Starkville after President Andrew Jackson's home state of Tennessee. The first settlers in what is now Salem were farmers who arrived from Maryland and Pennsylvania about 1788. They built their houses on high ground near the river where they could trade with the Indians for goods they craved but could not find in their own land. The town grew quickly because traders brought goods and people to trade here from all over America. By 1800 there were more than 100 families living here and two churches were built: one erected by James Caldwell, a prosperous farmer, in 1802; another constructed by Methodist Episcopal ministers under General Philip Schuyler in 1810/11. In 1801 Stark County was created from part of Medina County and its new county seat was moved to Salem to make way for development around Cleveland which had exploded during the Second Great Awakening that swept America during that decade of the 19th century. The original township (later village) of Salem consisted only of a few miles inland along the Cuyahoga River which formed its eastern border with Medina Township on the other side of Lake Erie; it contained no natural resources or commercial enterprises other than farming activities conducted by its small number of residents who did most everything else themselves including manufacturing products such as saddles and hats out of strawbale frames made from local oakum trees which provided some income for those involved but never generated much wealth beyond what these modest beginnings might have suggested! Thus began an era when rural areas throughout Middle America emerged as centers for economic development through commerce rather than through agriculture or lumber production! The following year (1802), when news came back from western India that JohnAdams had been elected president without being nominated by Congress, many Americans felt hope rejuvenate them once again after a dismal season preceding his election victory over Adams’ rival Aaron Burr! This burst suddenly into flame among American farmers who saw opportunities abound should Adams be successful as he seemed like someone with solutions to problems instead of just another politician looking out for himself! Accordingly, they decided to rally behind him even though he had little experience governing! And so within days after his inauguration we see first evidence that this nascent community will soon become something very special as well – events take place setting off plans for daylong celebrations culminating early next year when General Schuyler arrives here bearing gifts for both Presidents – cannons!!! We are then shown how things went downhill from there starting with Indian raids on our settlements followed shortly thereafter by mobs coming hither en masse armed with knives & hatchets (& sometimes firearms!) intent upon destroying everything & everyone found therein!! As you can imagine things got pretty ugly pretty quickly leading eventually to several people getting killed before finally order being restored…..sorta? Anyway….the story doesn’t really end there though because our attention then turns immediately towards William McKinley’s maiden voyage across Lake Erie aboard USS “Peacock” while also showing us various aspects surrounding this fateful day including reports arriving back ashore indicating McKinley looked shaky & barely able to walk despite being assisted everywhere along his voyage due primarily to Castleman’s diagnosis……quite an eventful trip indeed wasn’t it? All told we see dozens if not hundreds if not thousands+of images taken during this fascinating period Of American History all recorded herein………… SalEM…………………..

Salem, Ohio is a small town in the Buckeye State located about 25 miles northeast of Columbus. The population was 3,816 at the 2010 census. Salem's history can be traced back to 1796 when Jonathan Dayton and his wife Hannah founded the first post office in present-day Lancaster County. In 1821, Salem became a part of the Catawba County and then, in 1827, Catawba County was divided into five townships: Salem Township, Athens Township, Canton Township, Freedom Township and Madison Township. On January 1, 1828, Athens Township was merged with Canton Township to form Athens-Canton township. On November 12 of that year an act passed by the General Assembly authorized the erection of a school for boys in Salem. On December 9 of that year trustees were elected to erect the first school building which now stands on Main Street. The first teacher was Mrs. Jephtha Goodrich who taught from May 1st through October 14th of that year. In 1829–30 Mrs. Goodrich taught two classes per week while Miss Sarah Kershaw took care of K-12 instruction for girls on Mondays and Fridays from September 15th until December 5th; also during this time she made quarterly reports carded with her students’ accomplishments for use as teaching materials (the cards are still extant). On February 2nd 1830 Esther Henderson Nursery School opened its doors which later became known as “The First Methodist Episcopal Church” (now First Baptist Church). After one term as Superintendent Mrs. Goodrich resigned due to health concerns following her son graduated from high school on June 15th 1830 with distinction honors (he had been accepted into Yale University). From then until 1865 there were three principals: Amos Eaton (October 1865 - May 1870), Atherton Cranch(May 1870 - March 1875) and Rufus King(March 1875 - April 1880). It should be noted that only male students were admitted to these schools so women could not attend services or receive academic credit; however women did teach in gradeschools up until 1865 when those gradeschools were closed down because females were not allowed to enroll without parental permission according to state law at that time In 1861 Salem became part of Uniontownships within Trumbull County In 1870 Rev G W Sears began serving as pastor at "First Methodist Episcopal" church salemsite In 1905 election local officials changed name from 'Salem' to 'Salem City'. This change occurred because Ohio Revised Code § 3301 provided for a city charter if it met certain criteria including having a population over 10% black and having some measure of industrial development On November 4th 1907 James Sibley died suddenly after many years service as superintendent of schools at Salem City Schools
