The other end had an adjustable arm that allowed shooters to adjust the height of their targets. In 1872, another man named John Atherton started sellingTarget holders for use at gun shows and other events. This new type of Holder was designed to be easier and faster to set up than the old style Holder. It also featured a built-in stand that allowed shooters to place their Targets directly on top of it without having to fumble with settings or remove them from the holder every time they wanted to shoot again! The city was founded in 1788 by adn non-Indian settlers as a small community on the Scioto River. In 1811 Salem became a town under English common law and remained so until 1907 when it became an Cleveland suburb. Salem has experienced many dramatic changes over its history. In 1788, when it first settled on the Scioto River, Salem consisted of only 10 residents. By 1800, however, Salem had grown to 350 people with 5 stores and a school. The rapid growth of Salem was due in part to its location on the river bank which made it easy for traders and farmers to access trade goods and markets. Additionally, Salem's location made it an ideal place for manufacturing because there were no competing towns within miles. The early years of Salem were difficult; during this time period many residents faced poverty due to lack of resources or simply bad luck. However, through work ethic and hard work members of the community built up a strong foundation that would later be successful in other areas of their lives including business ownership and professional success. Unfortunately, during this time period also saw some major tragedies that shook Salem - one such tragedy occurred when four colonists from Georgia died after being shipwrecked off shore during Marshal Law's War (1794-1795). This event left a lasting impact on Salem as well as on local morale which helped contribute towards eventual success in economic development later on. In 1811 Salem became a town under English common law following passage of an act by Parliament recognizing British sovereignty over America's colonies south of Lake Erie.. As part as this change in legal status several key events took place: 1) The first meeting of what would become known as "The Company" was held at Salmon’s Tavern; 2) On October 14th opponentsof incorporation met outside City Hall; 3) A committee was appointed to explore land within present day Cleveland; 4) On November 15th “An Act for Establishing Townships” was passed both houses unanimously; 5) On December 12th Seth Pemberton patented his patent for ironworks #1PARISHIONALE SALEM OHIO 6) January 8th 1812 – James Caldwell donated land along Scioto River for public use 7) January 9th – George Washington Robinson donated land northeast side alley between High Street & Market Square 8) February 6th - District School Committee recommended establishing district school across entire township 9) March 16-27 th – General Assembly passed House Bill No 129 setting forth rules governing township organization 10 ) April 25 th - Township organized with 30 original incorporators
Salem, Ohio is a town in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 4,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kent County, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located on the border of Warren and Fayette counties. The first settlers in what would become Salem were farmers who arrived from Connecticut in 1795. They named their land after England's capital city, London, and began to build log cabins which they used as homes until 1819 when a post office was established in what is now Salem. When transportation became available on steamboats across the Cuyahoga River, Salem grew rapidly and by 1830 it had a store and two blacksmiths. The first school in that area was built in 1851 by subscription and operated for one year before founder Samuel Huntington donated money to have it replaced with a more permanent structure which served as the town hall until 1865 when it burned down. In 1870–1871 Salem installed new streetlights which helped reduce darkness during important fairs such as the International Meridian Fair held at Great Lakes Fairgrounds each summertime). In 1863 when Ridgely Township was organized, parts of southeastern Salem were annexed into that township while other portions remained unincorporated within Ridgely Township but continued to be known as "Salem" due to its proximity to Ridgely Lake where many activities took place including fishing, boating, swimming and hunting although there was no Ice Skating rink until 1959! In 1868–1869 an oil well was drilled near present day Main Street making Salem one of several towns along both sides of the river affected by this development; however unlike today where oil spills are common due to faulty fracking techniques or even sabotage efforts (e.g., burning down pipelines), back then most people lived close enough to work on their farms that there wasn't much impact from this particular event! In 1893 William McKinley became President of America after being elected via popular vote following four terms as Governor of Ohio; he soon announced his intention to visit all 50 United States including Toledo because he felt that Illinois' Republican Governor John Pemberton had been unfair in awarding voting rights for Cleveland residents east OF Chicago! On November 3rd 1893 McKinley made his maiden speech from Mount Vernon Square just north of downtown Toledo prior to travelingabusily upriver towards Cincinnati; during his speech he dedicated much attention towards improving conditions for American workers living west OF Detroit especially since businessesowners there didn't receive COLA benefits like their counterparts east OF Chicago!!! This move outraged many eastern Michiganans who felt inequitable treatment given their proximity TO CLEVELAND & OHIO's HUGE INDUSTRY!!! After spending about two hours touring various business properties east OF Detroit (& I'm not exaggerating here- every property owner/worker inside OF Detroit got sworn out & verified copiesof McKinley's speech BEFORE leaving!), McKinley finally stopped off at Mount Vernon Square around 11 PM local time whereupon he retired back home safe & sound!!) Although some people continue referringto modern day Salem as "Mount Vernon Square", technically speaking THAT square marked only 1/4th Of THE ACTUAL SQUARE footage measuring over 100 blocks wide!!!!! This reality check should also serve as reminder that although we may enjoy boasting about our accomplishments online or social media often times our hometowns can still hold us accountable…)
