Salem, Ohio is known as the "City of Trees" for a reason. The city was founded in 1787 and home to one of the first universities in America. In 1876, Salem became the capital of Ohio and has since been known for its progressive politics, art scene, and architecture. Today, Salem is known for its vibrant nightlife and cultural attractions. One of the most famous landmarks in Salem is the State Capitol building which was built in 1836. The capitol also contains a large collection of antique furniture and artifacts from around America. At this point in town's history, it was official that "salem had become both a citadel against crime and an oasis of lawful arms possession." Mayor Swayne would continue presiding over these beautiful surroundings until his death in 1968 at the ripe age of 78 years old... leaving behind an incredible legacy that still thrives today!

In 1836, John LEE became governor of Ohio after being elected by the state legislature over Adam Clayton Powell Jr., who was then mayor of New York City. He quickly set about repairing roads and building schools across Ohio after becoming governor. In 1837 he helped found The Western Reserve Historical Society which provides research on Fort Plain (now Cleveland), Pickering Point (now Portage Heights), Detroit Lakes and other sites near Cleveland that are important for history buffs or anyone interested in visiting these places! In 1850 when Brown v Board of Education was decided by Ulysses S Grant during Reconstruction days America experienced one of its largest waves of immigration with many Irish fleeing famine-ridden Ireland seeking opportunity and freedom in North America instead of returning home knowing they would face similar conditions there as their kin back home did! Many families moved westward along with their farms into what would become Salem Township – now part of Cuyahoga County – arriving late 1800s just as new railroads cutting through central Ohio were beginning to bring people and goods closer together! There wasn't much industry until companies like Proctor & Gamble began coming up with products like Tide laundry detergent which made Salem a popular destination among those looking for cleanliness!
