Rocky River, Ohio is a small town located in the U.S. state of Ohio. It was founded in 1817 by James Kapp and was named for the Rocky River that flows through it. The town has a population of about 1,500 people and is home to the University of Cincinnati's School of Medicine and Health Sciences. In 1827, President Andrew Johnson signed an act giving Congress authority to appropriate $5 million dollars towards building a canal across Mississippi River in order to connect Baltimore with Cleveland. This project became known as The Erie Canal Project and started receiving funding in earnest in 1829. After years of planning and controversy, work on The Erie Canal finally began in 1847-48! Once completed, this major transportation artery helped spur economic development throughout central Ohio!
