In 1892, a man named John A. McCarthy bought a shotgun from an oldtimer in Rocky River. He put the shotgun in his barn and started shooting at pigeons. The men who lived around the area started calling him "The Rifleman" because he would go out and shoot turkeys with his shotgun. In 1907, McCarthy opened a gun store in Rocky River and started selling shotguns, handguns and other firearms. By 1912, he had built up a large business and was considered one of the leading gun dealers in the region.
Rocky River is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Muncie–Dayton metropolitan area. Rocky River was founded by fur traders in 1795. The city was named for the Rocky Mountains which are located to the east of the town. The first settler in what became Rocky River was Nicholas Oakes who arrived in 1795 and purchased land from the Chillicothe Native Americans. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1802, Timothy White settled here and started a store that still stands today across from Municipal Airport. white also platted what is now downtown Rocky River and built two churches- First Congregationalist Church (now United Methodist) and Second Baptist Church (now First Baptist). In 1806, John Fenton donated land to Cincinnati as an airport site and established Greater Cincinnati Airport Company with his brother Amos Fenton as its president. The airport opened on July 1, 1911 as Rocky River Municipal Airport with service to Dayton and other cities in northeast Ohio starting on November 2 of that year. After World War I ended, commercial airline service increased as war equipment shortages made new planes available at home- First National Airways began flights between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and Detroit Wayne County Airport (DTW), becoming one of the original major carriers after World War II when all passenger travel ceased except for military passengers flying to Europe under Contract Air Force Travel Contracts signed between 1940-1945 by both American Airlines Incorporated——the precursor to Airlines Corporation—and British Airways Limited during hostilities when American Eagle did not operate until 1948 During this time economic conditions were good with prices below costs for goods exported into foreign countries; however undesirable activities such as smuggling took place due to incorrect information given about low tariffs being levied by our government relative to those abroad’s high rates Protests against these types of prices issues led eventually to passage of Congressional Joint Resolution 353 which stated: “That it be resolved by Congress that no duty or tax be imposed upon any exports whatsoever but such duties may hereafter be raised upon munitions exported from America’s soil” On December 14th 1946 American Eagle merged with British Overseas Airways Limited effective January 1st 1947 resultedin fares dropping 50% overnight due largely because American Eagle had been operating without proper hangar space at CLE so all airframes were stored indoors awaiting delivery back home; however this marketing ploy ultimately backfired resulting in more customers choosing European airports over US airports

Rocky River is a small town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 741 at the 2010 census. It has been in existence since 1795 and is one of the oldest towns in Ohio. The first settlers to Rocky River were James and Betty Fenton, who arrived in 1795. They built a cabin on what is now State Route 6 near present-day Rocky River Elementary School. The Fenton family continued to live on their farm until 1815 when they sold it to John Wray of Portsmouth, Virginia. Wray moved his family to Rocky River along with his livestock and tools in 1816. He became the first settler of what would become Rocky River after purchasing 640 acres (252 hectares) of land from David Bickerton of Portsmouth. Wray named his new community RockyRiver after the river nearby which he had seen while travelshifting through the area for work as a farmer. In 1824, he married Sarah Cook and renamed their home "Cook's Landing." The couple raised children there until Sarah died in 1840; John then took over the running of the settlement and continued until his death in 1850. In 1838, local resident Augustus Hildebrandt purchased 1/2 mile (0 kilometer) east of where Cook's Landing currently stands from Andrew Mellon for $10 dollars per acre (800 guilders). That same year, Hildebrandt donated 136 acres (50 hectares) to form what would become RockyRiver Township; this included most of present-day Butler County including parts of today's Huntington County as well as portions now belonging to Hamilton Township, Licking County and Scioto County. He founded the first post office at RockyRiver around 1840 which served residents within present day Butler and Huntington counties until 1870 when it was moved to Portsmouth due to limited postal service available within that area at that time In 1850, Rufus Dickey opened a mill known as "Dickey’s" located adjacent to modern day State Route 6 approximately two miles west of present day Rockridge Elementary School where people still shopping today can find artifacts dating back more than 175 years! This mill produced flour for early American markets such as Cincinnati and Pittsburgh before becoming idle during prohibition era because it was considered an eyesore by law enforcement officials . It reopened during World War II but closed again due primarily à lack demand for flour during hostilities . Today it remains vacant but offers views out its doors onto Interstate 71
