Rocky River, Ohio is a small town in Will County, Ohio, located on the west bank of the Mahoning River. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first rifle designed specifically for use in American warfare was the Springfield Armory's .45–70 Winchester rifle. This weapon was chambered for a wide variety of cartridges includingmm (7 mm), 11 mm (.45 caliber), 1868 loads of 12 gauge shotgun rounds and evenat 25 yards with various rimfire pistols like Colt's New Model Army revolver. Americans soon realized that thisweapon could be used effectively against Native Americans who were known to raids or ambush them during their travel through their territory which often led to some loss of life and property. In 1876, Congress passed the Indian Appropriations Act which allotted $10 million dollars to purchasing rifles and shotguns from tribes in order to arm American Indians against any possible attacks by these same groups. The contract for this project was let out to John Milius Company who proceeded to construct over 1,000 rifles and shotguns at Rocky River Arsenal Plant. The rifle designs produced by Milius company were highly successful and soon became popular among American troops throughout World War I as well as being exported to many other countries throughout those years. After World War I ended, America began its own domestic arms race leading to new designs such as what we now know as the AK47 assault rifle which came about due to difficulties in manufacturing traditional firearms like pistols etc., within America due to Prohibition laws passed during that time period. With so many different types of firearms being manufactured all over America it became increasingly difficult for law enforcement officials or civilians alike trying purchase one particular type or model of firearm without getting into trouble; eventually leadingto AK47s being mass-produced domestically by Soviet Union under license starting around 1954 until finally they were made available commercially in 1978.
