By 1713, there were over 100 inhabitants living near where current day Interstate 270 meets state Route 6 east of town. In 1796, Col. George Washington's forces burned all but one house in retaliation for British raids on Fort La Salle; this event served as a rallying cry for American colonists against Great Britain and helped spur their rebellion against British rule during the Revolutionary War (1775-83). In 1801, after being forced out of control by Native Americans following a siege and capture at Battle of Fallen Timbers, General Allen renamed both upper Scioto River and lower Scioto Creek after himself - thus formulating what would become Riverside: Upper was anglicized to Arlington Heights while Lower became Riverside proper. A post office called Arlington Heights was established in 1807; it moved from its original location two miles south to its current location four years later due to growth along I-270/SR 6 north and west of town. The townsite name change came about because early residents thought that Arlington Cemetery would be more likely to accept a new community with such an unusual name than other nearby communities that had been named Moreland or West Bloomfield (which eventually became Dayton). The railroad reached Riverside in 1869 after crossing SR 6 east of town on Railroad Avenue just north of Town Square; by 1890, railroads had started running through most all parts of Ohio except central Kentucky which was still unreachable by rail until well into the 20th century. That same year saw America's first commercial soft drink bottling plant when beverage company Keystone Bottling Company founded a facility on Wadsworth Road southeast of town near today's interchange with I-270/SR 608. Riverside is a town in and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,899 at the 2010 census. Riverside was founded in 1814 by Capt. Christopher Hall and colonists from New York City. It became an incorporated village in 1826. The city of Columbus annexed Riverside in 1907, but it reverted to its original name after that annexation. The area now known as Riverside was first inhabited by the Shawnee people before Europeans arrived there in the 17th century. In 1760, a party led by Captain Christopher Hall explored what is now Cuyahoga County and found the area promising for settlement. He and his followers built a small log cabin here near present-day Sycamore Street on May 6, 1814. This initial settlement would eventually become known as Riverside due to its location along the Scioto River at a point where many Native American nations had trade routes into Ohio going southward from Kentucky and Tennessee. In 1826, Captain John Dickson donated land to form what would become the city of Columbus; part of this donation included pieces of what is now Riverside Township (the site of today's University Heights neighborhood). On November 3, 1907 – one year after becoming an incorporated village – Riverside voted to secede from Columbus over disagreements about how much authority it should have over matters such as zoning ordinances and fire regulations After becoming an independent city under its own charter on December 15, 1909 – four years after being established as a town – Riverside voted to annex neighboring Dayton Township on February 7, 1916 because both towns had similar populations (Riverside had about 12 percent more residents than Dayton) The annexation created a combined population for both towns of 24,711 people (). As Medina County was formed out of portions of Cuyahoga and Lorain counties on March 1st 1915 followingdecisive US Supreme Court case Brown v Boardinghouse - most likely due to fears that Dayton or any other municipality within Medina County might follow suit with annexations - annexation decisions between villages generally stopped being made until after 1945 when they were re-examined based upon changing community needs/opportunities/threats ().' On October 11th 1915 members of two homemade militias which patrolled central Ohio against outlaws named "Raiders" posted themselves around North Side High School restaurant between Washington Boulevard & First Street just east Of I-675 carrying rifles & shotguns while orders were given not to shoot if approached; these 'antomanct' patrols continued until early evening when orderlies appeared & ordered them disband without incident'; date unknown Although no arrests were made during this time period nothing suggests that Riseborough Riflemen were involved with arms theft or vandalism.'
The first settler in the area was John Ritter, who arrived in 1795. The land was purchased by the government from the Muskingum River Indians in 1802. A post office called Riverside was established at this location in 1804, and remained in operation until 1865. In 1821, a school was built on what is now Front Street. This school served as the community's primary educational institution until 1901. In 1825, a millrace was constructed to provide water for local mills. The millrace also served as a road connecting town with nearby Dayton and Youngstown. The millrace was destroyed by floodwaters in 1902. By 1907, only one house remained standing in Riverside; all of the other buildings were destroyed by fire that year.
