Riverside is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. The population was 61,469 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Ross County after Cincinnati and Cleveland. Riverside is located on the southern border of Columbus, Ohio, just south of I-71 and east of US-12. The city's name comes from its location on two major waterways: The Cline River flows through it to the west and the Scioto River flows through it to the east. It was founded by farmers in 1796 as a trading post on both rivers. In 1814, when Fort Dearborn was built along one side of both rivers, Riverside became part of Indiana Territory under Ulysses S. Grant as part of that state's eastern boundary line. In 1827, when Ohio became a state, Riverside became its county seat; it has been since then an unincorporated community within Ross County. In 1830–1831, President James Kahl served as judge for Ross County; he donated land near what is now downtown Riverside to become what is today called Kahl Park (named after him). The park contains a memorial tablet dedicated to him and his wife Eliza Kahl who played an important role in developing Dayton into one of America's largest cities during that time period In 1880s there were many businesses like breweries (Winegrowers Trust), grocery stores (Eaton Bros.), meatpacking plants (Leybold Brothers) etc., but they closed down or moved out due to prohibition laws coming into effect in America which made liquor illegal During 1920s – 1930s there were several factories like United States Rubber Company Ltd., Textile Mills Corporation 2nd floor also known as "Brick Works" which produced bricks for buildings being built across town mostly around Third Street including Warehouse #2 still standing today inside current building used by United States Army Ordnance Department during World War II During 1940s most manufacturing jobs have left town because war began with heavy bombing raids over here

The population of Riverside peaked at over 150,000 in 1920 and declined rapidly after World War II as suburbanization set in. However, since the turn of the 21st century, Riverside has seen a rebirth with growth in downtown business district and new development around Interstate 70/U.S. Route 822 which connects Cincinnati to Cleveland and Detroit.
Riverside was founded in 1795 by the surveyor and landholder James Robertson. The town site was chosen because of its strategic location on the Scioto River, which connected Ohio with Indiana. The first store and house were built in 1796. A post office was established in 1800, and a school was erected in 1802. In 1814, the town added a square block to its foundation to accommodate growth. During the American Civil War, Riverside served as a garrison for General Ulysses S. Grant's army before surrendering on November 8, 1865. It regained its status as a town after the war and has remained so ever since. The population of Riverside increased rapidly during the early 21st century due to immigration from all over the United States and Mexico; by 2000, it had reached more than 100,000 people. In recent years there have been efforts to preserve some of downtown Riverside's historic buildings and significant artifacts while developing new development around them; however, these efforts have yet to fully take hold given ongoing budget cuts throughout most local government entities
