In 1898, the first modern cartridge was invented by George Armstrong Custer. The introduced " Cavalry Carbine", a percussion feed rifle that used a new type of ammunition called "buffalo bullets".

The community was founded by members of the Lewis family on November 3, 1825. At that time, it was one of twelve townships in what is now Hamilton County. It became a city on May 15th, 1907. The Lewis family were instrumental in creating Riverside as an agricultural town and they continue to be proud owners and residents today. The town’s namesake, John Lewis, played an important role in developing the area as a center for agriculture and trade. He also served as mayor from 1892 to 1896 and as a member of the Ohio General Assembly from 1894 to 1897. He was also instrumental in helping found Cincinnati (then called “Middletown”) which would become one of America’s largest cities. Today, Riverside is home to over 30 businesses including several grocery stores, banks, churches, hospitals and more. Its architecture reflects its rich history with many homes dating back to before World War II. Some notable landmarks include: The John Fetterman Library which was built in 1925; Stroud Park which includes a baseball diamond and remains one of Riverside’s most popular tourist attractions; The Bridge at Village Creek which provides access to both River Walk (a theme park) and Crocker Park; and Turtleback Brewery which has been making beer since 1978
Riverside was founded in 1795 by George Rogers Clark. It became a town in 1823 and a city in 1835. The first mayor of Riverside was James A. Garfield.
