Richmond Heights, Ohio is a small town located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,846 at the 2010 census, down from 6,022 in 2000. The settlement began as a place called "Richmond" on a tract of land granted to James Robertson by the British Crown in 1790. The name was changed to Richmond Heights in 1825 when most of what is now Richmond Heights was annexed by Cincinnati. In 1837, the village became part of Cleveland and remained that way until its incorporation into the city of Cleveland in 1907. The current scopes around here date back to 1902 when one Mr. John Sperry bought an old 15 inch reflector telescope from Samuel Hahnemann and set it up on his property near what is now Albany Avenue and Euclid Street (now Woodward Avenue). It was later moved to its present location on Arlington Avenue east of Sayre Road in 1922 and still operates today as a public observatory open to the public from 9am to 4pm weekdays and 8pm to 2am weekends (closed Mondays).
