Richmond Heights is a small community in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. Richmond Heights is northeast of Canton and southwest of Cleveland. The land that would become Richmond Heights was first settled by Europeans in the late 18th century. In 1792, James Robertson purchased 640 acres (249 hectares) of land east of present-day Richmond Heights from the Shawnee Nation for $5 per acre ($62 per kilometer). He named his purchase "Richmond". The town began to form around this community, which had developed as a horse and buggy stop on the southern side of Cuyahoga River near what is now Mentor Avenue and Meridian Road. In 1812, John Mosely founded Cincinnati's first Methodist church on his farm northwest of Richmond Heights. That same year, Mr. Mosely's son Solomon donated 2 acres (0.81 hectares) to be used as a school lot for students in his father's academy class. The Richardsons donated additional land to make up the town square where today's Main Street meets Cedar Lane in 1814; that parcel also included what is now West Side Drive and South Side Drive . In 1827, President James Kenedy granted deeds for 4 lots north of Main Street which became known as Kenedy Square: Lot 1 ran from Cherry Valley Road to East Third Terrace; Lot 2 ran from Cherry Valley Road to North Third Terrace;Lot 3 ran from East Third Terrace south to South Fourth Avenue; and Lot 4 ran from South Fourth Avenue east topresent day Main Street . On July 10, 1830 , Congress passed an act authorizing two schools in Richburg Township: one for white children only called "The school at Richburg" and another for colored children called "The school at Euclid". With these schools opening,Richmond Heights quickly became known as one of America’s most progressive towns . In 1861 when America went through its Civil War , Richmond Heights sided with Confederate States over the Union government . Most residents supported secession but few left their homes during the war effort . When it came time for Reconstruction after the war ended many chose not come back home because they were afraid their property would be taken away or their taxes raised

The town's rich history began with its incorporation as a village on April 14, 1811. At that time it consisted of just 10 families and none of them were landowners or participating in town elections. On July 1, 1811, Richmond Heights became the first town in what is now Hamilton County when it adopted a resolution ratifying the creation of neighboring townships: Athens (now Findlay), Jeffersonville (now Lebanon), and parts of Dayton and Portsmouth. 2 years later on October 27th,1813 Richmond Heights voted to annex part of Dayton Township - becoming one municipality with a population over 500 residents! In 1815-16 following an annexation vote by Dayton Township residents not including Richmond Heights - Richmond Heights voted to change its name to "Richmond" after General David Hunter who served during the War for Independence. The original settlers at this location included Nicholas Bourke who gave land for an academy; John Hughes who built a home; Peter Stroudtzer who did some business dealings with merchants from Cincinnati; George Sisson who served as constable; Samuel Taylor whose farmstead housed four Revolutionary soldiers from Yorktown area before they died in battle; Howard Beattie’s house which still stands today – complete with picket fence around perimeter and handrail leading up front porch – is also significant because he graded all roads within his limits starting from Hyde Park down to Newport News Road which lined both banks of Cuyahoga River back then!
