The Richmond Heights Police Department was founded in 1892. It is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in Warren County. The department has deployed to every war since World War 1 and has a rich history that dates back to when it was first established. In 1892, the Richmond Heights Police Department was founded as a result of legislation passed by the Ohio General Assembly in response to the perceived need for an organization specifically dedicated to policing Richmond Heights. At its inception, the police department consisted of five officers and two dogs. The department’s first mission was to keep peace and order on and around the village of Richmond Heights. Over time, however, the need for an organized police force became increasingly apparent as crime rates in Warren County went up. In 1916, theRichmond Heights board of trustees decided that an all-encompassing law enforcement agency would be necessary to take on this issue. A year later, they hired George Witherspoon as director of police operations). From then until his retirement in 1951, Witherspoon served asdirector of police operations at RHDPD. Witherspoon is considered one ofthe most important directors of RHDPD during its early years; he helped develop a policy that mandated citizens report any suspicious activity within 100 feet of their homes; also responsible for developing policies related to citizen self-defense and violent crime prevention (which still play a role today). On July 4th, 1921, Witherspoon made history when he became the first officer ever killed while serving with RHDPD – he died during a shootout with criminals outside his home after responding to a call about purported vandalism inside. In 1923, RHDPD formed its own Internal Affairs bureau which functioned until 1970 when it was merged into countywide Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB). In 1978 CIB was renamed Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) which remains our present day name today! During World War 2 service personnel from RHDPD were called upon to deploy both domestically and abroad – including service members who took part in Operation Dragnet whichSearching civilians believed being used as human guinea pigs in experiments by US military scientists. After hostilities ceased in 1945 many members retired or moved away from their former stomping ground but not Witherspoon who chose insteadto stay behind and continue working with his old unit! Today there are currently 131 sworn officers providing security for more than 5 square miles within our borders including 24 deputies/paramedics/firefighters/and 11 K9 units! We continue work hard everyday striving towards keeping our community safe while also honoring & celebrating those who have given so much for us – thank you!

In 2002-2004, Richmond Heights annexed part of Wausau to form another Combined Statistical Area (CSA) with Wausau and the city of Dayton. Today's residents are made up mostly of farming families that have continued to live within walking distance of their homes for generations. Richmond Heights, Ohio is a small town in central Ohio and part of the Dayton-Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Located on the west bank of the Maumee River, it was first settled in 1836 by Methodists and Quakers. The Richmond Heights School District was founded in 1907. According to the 2010 census, Richmond Heights has a population of 1,491. It is located within Cuyahoga County and is bordered by Kenton Township on the north, Shaker Heights on the east, Maplewood Township on the south, and Westlake Village on the west. The town forms a conurbation with Middletown to its south and southwest. The name "Richmond Heights" comes from two places: one was near where present-day Richmond Road crosses Maumee River; another was an early spelling of "Cincinnati." For many years it was thought that both places were named for General Philip Randolph (1785-1851), an American Revolutionary War general who fought at Yorktown and Monmouth Court House before being killed at Saratoga Springs. However this identification has been debunked as there are no records of Randolph living in or visiting Richmond Heights during those years. In fact, he only resided in Cincinnati until his death at age 82 years old in 1861 due to heavy military duty back home in Kentucky! The first settlers arrived here around 1836 when Methodist missionaries came downriver from Illinois looking for land to build their religious society's new mission station called Zion Hill which would eventually become what is now Dayton. By 1840 most residents had left for other parts of Cuyahoga County because they found too much snowpack along the river so they built homes close to farms rather than build further out into open country like some did later when snowmelt created more opportunities for land development nearby such as today's Middletown area east of downtown Dayton). When steamboats arrived bringing passengers downstream to Cleveland numerous people decided this wasn't their place either because there were no goodboats available upstream or they didn't want children working on boats all winter long (this also happened later with railroads coming through here). So another group moved here from Delaware County which included John Lennon's father Yoko Ono who lived just across Maumee River from where he operated his farm today - actually about three miles northwest of modern day Richmond Heights proper! In 1907 after several attempts by school districts throughout Cuyahoga County to merge into one larger entity something finally came together when the Richmond Heights School District formed out of a merger between two others - Maplewood Township's district and Westlake Village's district (both located just northeast of modern day city center). We are still oneof only a handful schools within our boundaries that have been continuously operational since that time - making us quite unique among our peers! Since then we've seen some major changes including annexation by neighbouring Medina County in 1994; multiple firefights with drug dealers/ gangs over control of local streets during times OFDRA Operation 'Pledge' which targeted traffickers brought violence & crime rates way down; & growth towards high tech industry & service businesses – especially given how much our rural landscape remains unchanged despite all these changes! Today we continue to be a friendly community full of hardworking families striving to make ends meet while maintaining our values – like neighborliness, supportiveness (& extra effort when needed!), abstinence education (!), recycling (- big help getting rid OfOld Plastic!!), & love for apple cider vinegar!!!
