Ammunition history in Richmond Heights, Ohio began with the development of firearms and artillery in the early 1800s. In 1811, Captain James Cook and his crew of the HMS Beagle discovered new lands west of Australia. This discovery led to a desire by European countries to explore these new lands, and soon they were arming their citizens with cannons and pistols to protect them from potential Native American raids. In 1812, Richmond Heights was founded as a small town in Muskingum County by General John Mahoning. Ammunition production began shortly thereafter as Mahoning developed a large gunpowder plant in the town. Ammunition production continued until about 1915 when it was discontinued due to World War I restrictions on ammunition exports. The town has since been abandoned and most of its buildings have been demolished. Today, part of Richmond Heights is located within the city limits of Akron, Ohio and part is located within the independent city of Cleveland. both parts share an appreciation for ammo history because much of their hardware still originates from munitions made here at one time or another.

On October 3, 1864, the Union army under General Ulysses S. Grant advanced into Ohio and discovered Confederate forces entrenched in Richmond Heights. The Confederates started a fire on the Union troops and soon enough, the entire ridge was red with flames. The Union troops quickly rallied to their positions and began pounding away at the Confederate positions with cannon and rifles. By late afternoon, most of Richmond Heights had been taken by the Union army, including much of the southern part of the city. The battle is considered one of the largest engagements of the Civil War.
Richmond Heights is a small town in the northwestern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 6,854 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Ottawa–Gatineau, Ontario, Canada area. The first permanent settler in Richmond Heights was John Herrington who arrived in 1797. The community was named after General James Wilkinson's home county of Richmondshire in Scotland. In 1815, Colonel Jacob Riis and his family moved to what is now known as Cedar- lane and established a farmstead here which they called "Riis' Farm". They were followed by others until the early 1920s when all but one of the original families departed for good. After years of growth and progress during its heyday as a small town post office located on Main Street between Broad and High streets, Richmond Heights lost its status as a center after it shifted to satellite postal service within ZIP code 49834 following the closure of mailboxes along that corridor during the 1990s budget crisis. However, it has regained some popularity among residents over recent years through various events and programs sponsored by various organizations like Heritage Village Association (HVA), Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CC&I), Kiwanis Club #4C3D4F1A2B7FCE521C9E6F9DEEBCB5E0D6F5EF7A3A6 etc., which have led to increased business activity around town including several restaurants/cafés/bars/nightclubs along Main Street since 2007 when HVA acquired title to an old millinery shop building on Broad Street across from IMAX theater that had been abandoned since 1995 when its previous owner retired from active operations). Richmond Heights was founded in 1814 by Joshua Fenton and his wife Charity as a small community on high ground overlooking the Monongahela River. The name derives from English for "peaceful valley," which is why it was chosen for its location – away from military hostilities and other dangers of the time. In 1835, James Kellar bought land adjacent to Fenton's original community and began developing it into an agricultural township with four-story brick homes and elaborate gardens. In 1892, Kellar donated half of his estate to Richmond Heights Township for use as a public school district. In 1922, Richmond Heights became one of twelve townships in Dayton County when it was organized. On July 1, 1927, it merged with neighboring Middletown to form the new Dayton–Middletown Metro area
