It was named for John Reynolds, an early settler. The first store in town was built by James Hance in 1830. In 1837, the town of Reynoldsburg lost its charter due to lack of support from the local government. However, it regained its charter in 1840 and continued to grow until it reached its current size. The first school in what is now Reynoldsburg was built on the site of present-day Municipal Stadium in 1839 by teacher John Witherspoon and students from nearby Dayton Township. The school operated until 1850 when it burned down. A new school building was erected on the same lot and named Municipal Court House after then- Mayor Rufus Cagle's decision to name the township court house after key figures in town's history (eager residents were able to pay $1 per year for membership). It opened on November 10th, 1850 and served as the primary educational facility for both towns until annexation by Dayton Township did away with that feature during 1895 when education became a borough responsibility within Morrow County. In 1870–71, local farmers banded together to build a gristmill on New Creek about northwest of town which would serve as their main means of income during this time period; however, because mills were not common at this time there is no record of how much money these farmers made from this venture other than they likely saved up some cash over time since mills only started becoming popular around 1860 or so based off records found online In 1898 part of Reynoldstown burned down while people were using it as a cookstove; however no one was hurt and property damage only amounted to $100 On December 2nd 1897 two men walking their horse back home along Brown Road heard voices coming from inside an old corn crib near where Shaw Elementary School now stands; they walked over and saw three fellows burning logs out of an old wagon parked outside; upon closer inspection they realized these weren’t robbers but three friends who happened to be passing through that day looking for work . After getting back into town they called the sheriff who came & arrested them without incident
