When the Reynoldsburg area was first settled in 1794, it was a part of the Northwest Territory. The area that is now Reynoldsburg was originally called "Nanticoke" after the Nanticoke River. By 1806, when Ohio became a state, Reynoldsburg had become a part of what is now Harrison County. In 1828, James W. Reynolds founded the City of Reynoldsburg and named it for his father-in-law, John Sisson. After James W. Reynolds's death in 1849, his wife Anna Quesnay took over as president of the city council and continued to make decisions about city hall and other important matters until her death in 1872. During Anna Quesnay's administration, many new buildings were built in downtown Reynoldstown including the first courthouse in Ohio and the old State House which still stands today. James Wrensfield Reynolds also played an important role in history during this time period by serving as governor of Ohio from 1851 to 1861 and again from 1865 to 1870. He is considered one of Ohio's most accomplished politicians and he helped pave the way for many important changes throughout Ohio such as our current Constitution and government system. Through his dedication to public service and his efforts on behalf ofOhioans, James Wrensfield Reynolds has left a lasting Legacy on our state Capitol building here in Columbus!

In 1792, when Ohio Territory was created following the Treaty ofParis, Reynoldsburg was part of that territory along with many other settlements including Dayton and Sandusky. In 1825, Reynoldsburgh erected its first log courthouse which still stands today (renovated in 2006). In 1840s, residents started settling down around what is now downtown Reynoldsburg due to new land availability outside of Erie County; this led to growth across town boundaries until all but one block north remained part of original Erie Street South neighborhood today known as North Park Place (the exception being Block 5 south which became known as Liberty Square). It wasn't until 1908 whenMayor John Fenton developed what would become North Park Place into an official enclave within Reynoldsburg limits – becoming one block long only east/west streets leading out from North Park Place were called “ forums” while all other blocks were residential streets running north/south respectively (eastern forum corner still remains undeveloped today). This development allowed for more efficient transportation between neighborhoods reducing trips taken by drivers who had to go both ways on single route thoroughfares like Broadway and Third Street during morning hours only to return home late at night or take another bus or bike ride back home during afternoon hours; this also helped spur economic growth throughout much older parts east/west OF North Park Place thus helping preserve their character even after annexation into wider Reynoldsburg boroughhood several years later.)
