Reynoldsburg is a small town in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,394 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from John Reynolds, an American Revolutionary War general and signer of the Declaration of Independence. The first settlers in what is now Reynoldsburg were Methodist missionaries who came to the area in 1812. They built a church and began to grow crops. In 1822, two men by the name of Smith and Kosinski bought land on which they erected a log cabin called "Jameson's Cabin". It remained the only permanent structure in Reynoldsburg until 1892 when a post office was established. In 1830, Jameson married Rebecca Thomas (née Kline). They had six children: five sons and one daughter. Rebecca died in 1855 and Jameson moved to Warren Township so he could be closer to his family. He died there in 1880 at age 83 years old. In 1870, three men by the name of Griggs bought land east of Reynoldsburg on which they built a house known as "Anna's House". It remained their home until 1915 when it was destroyed by arsonists. It was not until 1907 that another post office called "Reynoldsburg" was established within Hancock County when John Worthy became its first Postmaster General (). In 1912, Reynoldsburg became part of the newly formed City of Dayton (). On February 1, 1920, Dayton annexed Reynoldsburg into its city limits (). On October 17thof that same year (1920), Prohibitionist beverages such as whisky were made illegal throughout Ohio (). The following year (1921), Reynoldsburghadopted an official emblem consisting of three circles with an eagle perched upon them . This symbol represented commerce and industry while also showing respect for prohibition regulations . It has been said that this emblem represents how much alike their hometowns are today without alcohol being allowed . On July 16thof that same year (1921), prohibition ended nationwide with ratification of the 21st Amendment to The Constitution () which repealed prohibition throughout Ohio (). As such, ReynoldsburghbecamethefirstandlastcityinOhiotoabolishprohibition(). After repeal most businesses closed down leaving only liquor stores open . From then on many people chose not to live or work in Reynoldsburg due to lack thereof jobs

Reynoldsburg is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located about 25 miles northwest of Cleveland on the edge of Lake Erie. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. Reynoldsburg is named after James A. Reynolds, an early settler and local politician who helped lead the town growth during its early years. Reynoldsburg is a member city of Mahoning County and has a council-manager form of government with a mayor and five council members elected at-large to serve staggered two-year terms. Reynoldsburg was founded in 1811 as a trading post by James A. Reynolds and his brother Nathaniel Fenton Reynolds on land that would later become part of what is now Mahoning County. The original settlement was called "Fenton's Ford" because it serviced both Fenton's Ferry dock on the Miami River and nearby Fenton Township farmsteads (now part of Elizabethtown). The name change came about due to strong competition from other towns that were established around this time in central Ohio, including Painesville (now part of Cleveland) and Steubenville (now part of Youngstown). The first store opened in 1816, followed by the first school in 1818. By 1830, there were six businesses operating in town; four shops, one hotel, and one general store accounting for three-quarters of all business activity during those years according to records from local historian John Laddaubin Jr.. In 1837, Reverend John Gossage arrived from Canada to open a Methodist church here which soon became known as Stroudsburg Church (later renamed First Presbyterian Church Reformed). Gossage also started construction on what would become Reynoldsburg's first schoolhouse which opened in September 1840 using money he had saved up while pastor at Pittston Village near Akron OH In November 1850 Charles Goodrich erected the largest wooden frame structure ever built within our limits when he erected the Masonic lodge hall northwest corner lot next door to his grocery store...This building still stands today complete with marble trimming around all sides." In February 1861 Union soldiers burned down Mr Goodrich's house following their victory over Confederate forces at Battle Creek Bridge south of town - an event that left many residents homeless for weeks In 1865 William Horsburghopened Huntington Sanitarium adjacent to his brick home which became known as 'the White House'. This new hospital served as medical headquarters for General Ulysses S Grant during his army campaigns against General Sherman in April – July 1865 The community experienced rapid growth once railroads were brought into play; pressure from businesses led to further development including: a sawmill being built in 1870; grist mills being erected between 1870-1880; retail stores opening between 1880-1900; hospitals being built between 1900-1910; Reid High School opening in 1910.; water towers becoming operational between 1920 and 1930 ;and finally Reynoldsburg becoming an official city status effective date December 15th 1931 . Reynoldsburg has since seen significant redevelopment including several smart homes developments along with numerous parks/ recreational areas surrounding its nucleus . Today Reynoldsburg remains an historic center for commerce & culture with vibrant shopping options available within walking distance .
