The first airguns were created in 1855 by George Reynolds of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The Reynoldsburg Gun Company was the first company to mass produce firearms using this new technology. The company produced a variety of pistols and rifles, including the famous Colt Model 1860 Airgun. Reynoldsburg became an important center for airgun production in the early 20th century. It was home to the American Pistol Association (APA) until 1964 and continued to be a major producer of guns through World War II and into the postwar period. In addition, Reynold's gun factory supplied weapons to many other countries during World War II. In recent years, Reynoldsburg has become known as a center for air rifle production. Many companies have moved their businesses here, resulting in an increased number of airgun dealers and retailers throughout the city. Additionally, there are several large-scale air pistol events held each year in Reynoldsburg that attract both amateur and professional shooters alike.
All firearms use air to shoot rounds. Airguns work by using an energy source (usually a cartridge) to push the air out of the barrel and into the shooter's mouth or other shooting area, where it is shot back into the gun. The process of cocking an airgun begins with drawing back on the trigger, which causes the gas in the barrel to expand. This expanding gas takes up space in the barrel and makes it possible for more propellant gases to get pushed out and fire off from the muzzle than if there were not enough space inside ofthe barrel for that propellant to move. When all of these gases have fired off, you will hear or see what is called a "snap" sound as each round fires. Reynoldsburg is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located southeast of Dayton and east of Akron. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. Reynoldsburg is part of the Dayton–Upper Arlington, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that would become Reynoldsburg was first settled by French Canadian colonists in 1788. The area became known as "The Meadows" because it was a crossing point for two major Native American trails: the Muskingum River and the Wabash River. A post office called Dutchtown was established in 1802, and a railroad station was constructed in 1836. The original village site included just under 2 square miles (5 km²). By 1870, however,Dutchtown had acquired over 4 square miles (10 km²), making it one of the largest villages in Northwest Ohio. replaced Dutchtown as the center of business and development around 1830 when traders began to establish themselves along what is now US-1 north of Princeton Road on what is now Midway Boulevard near present-day Reynoldsburg Elementary School and Dutchtown Methodist Church (now First United Methodist Church). In 1825 Indianapolis businessman Nicholas Biddle donated land to form what would become Middletown Township after his donation passed through several hands before arriving at Cincinnati lawyer James Caldwell's family home on Delaware Avenue in Middletown Township proper. When Caldwell decided to move away from Indiana Territory due to religious differences with fellow Quakers John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson he took with him much of this property including Delaware Avenue which led to business opportunities for local merchants including David Rice who built Rice's Mills on what are now Second Street, Third Street NW., Fourth Street SE., Fifth Street SW., Sixth Street NE., Seventh Street NNW., Eighth Street EAST and NinthStreet WEST across from present day Midway Boulevard between West Side Drive/Negley Road/Harrison Road/Belle View Drive; today's Second street corridor running concurrently from Hennepin Avenue downtown Minneapolis runs concurrent Streets Second streets North then East then South; North Third street continuing past Belle View Drive into Harrison road today but Streets were realigned prior to development starting south Seventh street coming out onto Harrison road Turner Rd finally entering again into Hennepin Ave alley before continuing down Hennepin Aveoutherly alley all the way back into Midway BoulevardOriginal Main St continued until renamed Market StREYNOLDSBURG VILLAGE wwwwebstercomunities dot com

The first store in Reynoldsburg opened in 1824. In 1830, the Reynolds family moved to what is now Evansville, Indiana and died there. The first school in Reynoldsburg was built in 1836. The first post office was established in 1840. In 1847, the Ohio legislature passed a bill establishing a county seat for Butler County; Reynoldsburg became part of that county. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down the courthouse and stores in town during the American Civil War. In 1865, Reynoldsburg became part of Union territory when Butler County seceded from Ohio. In 1870, Reynoldstown became a city; it remained an unincorporated community until 1951 when it became a part of Lucas County, Ohio.
