Reading, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 9,716 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Reading were farmers and their families who started arriving in the area around 1800. By 1810, there were about 30 people living in Reading and it had a population of 10 residents. The first school opened in 1814 and classes were held on an adobe building that was used as a barn until 1840 when a new school was built on the present site. After years of testing and debate, voters passed an ordinance granting cityhood to Readington on November 3, 1928; however, due to strong opposition from Dayton officials, the ordinance failed ratification two weeks later when 1% of registered votersmonton chose not to participate. In 1933 referendum vote ballot results showed that 81%of residents approved annexation intoDayton while only 19% voted against it- this indicates that many people did not understand how Cityhood would work and favored retaining their township status quo despite overwhelming majority support for incorporation into Dayton! This situation continued until 1945 when both townships merged into one entity under the name “Reading” – again demonstrating how difficult it can be for cities like Readington Township within rural areas such as oursto achieve city status without prior approval from neighboring municipalities!
