Ravenna is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Warren County. It was founded in 1800 by Captain James Ravenna, an American Revolutionary War veteran, and his family. The city was named for James's grandfather, John Ravenna. In 1817, James's older brother John purchased a farm on the east side of downtown Ravenna from Nicholas Weisbachs. In 1830, the brothers erected a two-story building on this property as their home and office; they also began to trade their goods ( principally agricultural) directly with local farmers and traders. They continued to do so until 1858 when they sold their farm to Andrew Carnegie for $50,000 dollars ($ in current dollars). The city of Ravenna grew rapidly during this time and by 1860 it had been renamed "Ravenna" after Pittsburgh's first settler, Sir George Macdonald (1810-1876), 4th Baronet (). By 1870 it had reached its present size with over 400 residents (including 150 Native Americans) living within its limits. During the late 19th century several important industrialists established themselves in Ravenna including Andrew Carnegie who built both steel mills and a waterworks which served as one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Ohio at that time Additionally, Ravenna became famous for its annual car show which attracted many leading automakers from all over Europe each year during the 1920s through 1930s
