Ravenna, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,721 at the 2010 census. Ravenna is part of the Dayton–Akron metropolitan area. It lies on the Scioto River and is northeast of Akron. The first permanent settler in Ravenna was James Dickey in 1814. He built a log cabin near present-day Ravenna and named it for his home country of Scotland. The town's first schools were established in 1825 and 1830. A post office was established here in 1836, and until 1840 it was known as "Dickeyville". In 1856, John Crampton donated land to make up what would become the core of today's Ravenna community. He named the village after his home county of Lancashire, England. In 1870, construction began on what would become the first municipal building in this community – a two-story frame bank building on Elm Street that still stands today. At that time, Ravenna had just 6 residents and no school! In 1916–17 when Ravenna became an incorporated village – one year before Dayton did – its first mayor was Mabel Dodge Lewisohn (president pro tem). The Agricultural Society Building (now called the Goodrich Museum) opened its doors to the public in 1922 as part of a park project led by then-mayor George Goodrich Jr., who also founded Goodrich Tire & Rubber Company nearby on Elm Street (the company later moved to University Plaza). Today,Ravenna has two library branches: One located at Town Hall and one across from First Baptist Church; four parks including Forest Park with baseball diamonds/hardwood courts and sand volleyball courts; three ZIP codes: 44403 (southwest side), 44401 (northwest side), 44629 (northeast side)

In 1932, the city of Ravenna was incorporated into the newly formed Cleveland metropolitan area and continued to grow throughout the 20th century. After World War II,Ravenna experienced rapid growth as new businesses were established in industry and transportation. Today, ravennas economy is still strong with many multinational companies located in downtown Ravensburg including Foxconn Technology Group Inc., Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Inc., DowDuPont Co., Moraine Valley Coal Company and Lake Erie Materials Corporation among others. Today, ravennas vibrant community offers excellent opportunities for cultural exchanges with other regions across North America and around the world. It is also home to one of America’s largest art museums - The Cleveland Museum of Art - which is open to visitors every day from 9am until 5pm (unless otherwise noted). Additionally, ravennas rich history (including significant contributions made by General George Washington) has been preserved through various museums located within or adjacent to downtown Ravensburg including The George Washington University School of Archaeology & Anthropology; The John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum; and The Cleveland State University College of Arts & Sciences Department of History & Archaeology
Ravenna was founded in 1796 by George Washington as a trading post on the Great Lakes. In 1812, Ravenna became an American town and was named for Ravenna, Italy. It was enlarged in 1825 to include the towns of Latrobe and Wyoming. The name Ohio was first applied to Ravenna in 1837 when Ohio Territory was organized from part of Michigan Territory. In 1851, the territory became states of the United States.
