Ravenna is a small town in Logan County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. Ravenna is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. It is the home to Painters Row Racetrack and Ravenna High School football team. The first settlers in what is now Ravenna were Township residents John and Sarah Goodrich who arrived in 1800. They built a log cabin on the edge of town and named it after their home state of Rhode Island. In 1811, they moved to what is now Northfield Township where they had six children: Mary (later Mrs. John Goodrich), Sarah (brought up by her parents until she married James Smith in 1824), Johnathan (died young at age 10 years old), Elizabeth (brought up by her mother until she married George Burchardt in 1830; two sisters also lived there for a time), Rebecca (married Samuel Cook) and Hannah (married Nicholas Fenton). In 1830, the Goodrichs sold their land near Northfield to James Crain who developed it into one of the larger villages in Logan County with over 100 residents when he platted it around 1840. He named his village Ravenna after his mother's birthplace which he located about twenty miles east of his village on an island in Narragansett Bay. It was not until 1849 that Drury Bros., local merchants, bought all of Crain's land south of Northfield Village including Ravenna from him for $100 per acre because they wanted to make sure that no other business would control so much valuable real estate within their boundaries as did Drury Bros.. Over time many other businesses have cropped up around RavenNA including Wards Auto & Pipe Shop which still operates today as JDS Wagon Wheel Antiques Inc., Post Office/Mail Stop #2 - currently serving as the only working post office west of Cincinnati since 1955 - Masons Hall which served as both a Masonic Lodge and storage facility for local farmers during prohibition; Bankers Trust Company which operated several stores along Euclid Avenue between First Street and Clairborne Road before being taken over by Allied Banks Corporation in 1958; Coal Mines open ground just north of present day Westown Shopping Center where coal was mined beginning around 1800 until 1951 when it closed due to competition from oil production; Gerald Ressler Hardware Store opened adjacent to present day RDN Truckstop on Fourth Street between Vine Road and Cherry Hill Drive circa 1974 - this store also became known locally for its annual Hallowe'en pumpkin carving contest held at itsChristmas display window annually beginning 1998 RavenNA has been consistently ranked among America's most liveable communities according to Forbes magazine four times since 1978 with latest ranking tying for eighth place out of fifty-six municipalities studied The townsite that makes up today’s Ravenna wasn’t always so peaceful or idyllic when first platted – rather it was chaotic! Ravenna, Ohio is a small town in the United States located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. Ravenna is bordered by Grand Traverse County to the north, Ottawa County to the east and south, and Lake Erie to the west. The first European settlers in what is now Ravenna were brought over by fur traders from Asia in 1795. In 1803, John Fetterman founded agrarian society called The Fetterman Estate which provided land for farmers and others who pursuits included raising livestock, harvesting crops, and manufacturing goods. At one time or another many businesses operated within Ravenna including J.B. Laughlin & Company (a soap manufacturer), Wm. Tabor Co-operative Bank (a grocery store), Girdler's Furniture (a furniture retailer), Ford Motor Company (a car company), Pillsbury Doughnuts (a doughnut shop) and Holmes Drug Store No. 2 which still exists today as a convenience store with seating for 100+. In 1907, local businessmen organized a fire department which became anunit of government under the name Township of Ravenna volunteer fire department No 1 on July 1st following ratification of township form by voters at an election held that day. The first building erected on new lot was inflatable pool house; later it became municipally owned hall which served as gymnasium until 1966 when it was replaced with present day facility named after Mrs. Ruth Acheson it serves as primary school auditoriums graduation ceremonies are also held there annually during summer months On December 14th 1949 Local School District #1 merged into Local School District #7 providing education opportunities throughout village while Village Fire Department continued to operate independently with separate station housed in previous structure until 1959 when that station was transferred from district to district . This resulted in consolidation of all departments within newly created School District but individual firefighters continue to respond & serve within their own boundaries
