Ravenna was founded in 1788 by Samuel Colt, the inventor of the revolver. The town was named for a raven that flew into Colt's window while he was working on his pistol. The raven continued to fly into Colt's house and hang out until it died. Eventually, the remains of the bird became a part of Ravenna's history and culture. The first gun parts manufactured in Ravenna were barrels and stocks. A barrel is made from wood which is split into two halves, then shaped into a cylinder using a chisel or hammer. The top half of the barrel is carved to look like an animal head with ears spread wide open, while the bottom half is shaped like a human hand with fingers pointing straight down. When it comes time to make the stock, someone must cut the wood so that it has enough lenght to fit comfortably on their shoulder but still covers the gun's trigger guard and magazine well. In 1826, John Brown & Co., one of America's leading gunmakers, moved its manufacturing operations from New York City to Ravenna Township in order to take advantage of better transportation infrastructure and freight rates there. This move allowed them to produce high-quality firearms at an affordable price for American consumers. Brown & Co.'s products quickly gained popularity throughout America, becoming known as "the best guns in America." Throughout this time period, other manufacturers also began producing firearms in Ravenna Township such as Smith & Wesson (1887), Remington (1892), and Savage Arms (1907). These companies produced handguns, rifles, shotguns, ammunition cartridges, shoes; all without having any connection with Brown & Co.. "Pistols made here were exported throughout North Americaand most notably Europewhere they found success both as personal weaponsandas instrumentsof warfare." The Ravenna Rifle Company was a rifle company in the Union army during the American Civil War. The company was first organized on October 29, 1861, at Ravenna, Ohio. From 1862 to 1865, it served in the 10th Ohio Infantry Regiment. In 1865, the company moved to Danville and then Lynchburg, Virginia. It was disbanded there in 1868.
Ravenna is a small town in theuy of Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1814 by James K. Polk and his wife Rachel, who named it after the then-new capital of Italy, Ravenna. The population was 7,846 at the 2010 census. Ravenna is part of the Dayton–Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Ravenna was James K. Polk Sr., who arrived in 1814 with his family from Illinois. After a few years he moved out to create a new settlement on the Scioto River near what is now downtown Ravenna. The original house where Polk established himself became known as "the White House". In 1827, when Ohio became an United States state, its seat was moved to Ravenna from Middletown because that city had failed to meet certain requirements set by Congress for incorporation as a village. In 1830 President John Quincy Adams appointed Knox County (now Montgomery County) official county seat because it met all necessary requirements but Middletown refused to accept them. Adams relented and made Ravenna the county seat on July 1, 1830 It was not until 1861 that Dayton finally achieved its independence as an independent city and changed its name to Dayton after General Ulysses S Grant's headquarters during the American Civil War there Ravenna has been home to many famous people including Secretary of State Hamilton Fish (1881-1937), Drs Luther Strange (1983-1987), Rep.(D) Bob Ney (1997-2002), Gen.( USAF generals Jack Keane & Stanley McChrystal), Mayor Tom Barrett (2011-) and Stephanie Clifford (2006-2015).

Ravenna, Ohio is a small town in the Ottawa County Judicial District of central Ohio. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. Ravenna is located on the southern edge of the Monongahela National Forest and is home to several businesses and schools. The town takes its name from a river that flows through it, the Ravenna River. The first Europeans to visit Ravenna were French traders in 1624 who named it "Ravignon." In 1795, when General James K. Polk arrived in America as part of his march across North America during the Northwest Indian War, he found himself at the mouth of the Ravenna River and decided to make his headquarters there. He ordered his troops to build a fortification on top of a hill near where today's downtown stands. Ravenna's growth began with its incorporation as a village in 1851. It grew rapidly after railroads were built through Monongahela County in 1868 and 1870, connecting Ravenna with larger communities such as Dayton and Youngstown. By 1900, Ravenna had become one of Ohio's largest cities with over 100 residents. During World War II, ravennas saw action in both Pearl Harbor and Europe as part of military campaigns led by American soldiers fighting for freedom against Axis forces abroad. Many ravennas also served in government service during that time; many are still alive thanks to volunteerism programs run by their community organizations today. It was not until 1990 when local officials adopted an official name change for their city - "Ravenna" - following recommendations from anurban dictionary project sponsored by civic groups throughout Ohio Wesleyan University's School of Urban Affairs - which then bestowed upon them this moniker for all purposes including tourism marketing endeavors . In 1881, Ravenna Male School was built and became one of the first schools in Summit County. In 1898, Ravenna had its own water system and began to sell ice cream out of a store on Main Street. The population of Ravenna declined after World War II because many farmers moved away for job opportunities in neighboring towns.
