Ravenna, Ohio is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,651. The Ravenna Micropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 17,073 as of July 1, 2018. The town was founded in 1827 by John Aiken and named for ravens that frequented his farmstead. It was incorporated as a village in 1881 and became an unincorporated community in 1910. The name is from the Latin word "ravana", meaning "a black or brown bird with long wings". The first settler to arrive in what is now Ravenna was Captain John Cook who landed on October 15, 1800 on behalf of President George Washington's mission to purchase land at Coshocton Bayou for $5 million dollars (the price at which he sold it). Cook's group built a cabin on an island near where Ravenna sits today and named it Fort Knox because they thought it would be impregnable against Native Americans. In 1827, John Aiken decided to move from his farmstead into what is now Ravenna after finding out that he could not afford to keep up with advances made by other farmers in nearby Athens Township. He erected a log cabin about one-and-a-half miles (two kilometers) away from where he currently stands on West Third Street between Carpenter Road and State Route 33 South which still stands today as part of evidence for his log cabin claim. From this location he started trading goods with local Indians along Ohio River trade routes such as the one leading from Cincinnati to Portsmouth via Cleveland and then downriver to Pittsburgh through Clearfield Township and into Pennsylvania near Altoona before reaching Hawk Island off the coast of Delaware Bay; during this time period there were many Indian traders living along these trade routes due to treaties signed by both sides prior to American independence In early 1830, Aiken married Polly Ann White who came over with him from Athens Township when she got pregnant while he lived at Fort Knox With their two daughters born here: Sarah (1830), Martha Jane (1832), Anna Maria (1835), they returned home soon after Sarah's birth but continued trading until 1840 when they moved back upriver again under new leadership including Captains Isaac Hull(leftover baby) & Nicholas Wright(founder father) They took over running fort Knox for 3 years until Captains Hull&Wright relocated it further upstream in 1845 becoming known as Wrightstown thenceforth Ravennas only permanent settlement east side/northwest corner OF state line

Polk moved the U.S. Capitol from Philadelphia to Ravenna, and in 1827 Congress passed the first national Constitution based on U.S. government principles articulated at Ravenna.[1] The town experienced rapid growth during its early years as a commercial center, thanks to its location near the Great Lakes and its access to transportation resources such as boats and railways. However, due toeconomic conditions that prevailed throughout much of American society during this time period, Ravenna eventually declined after 1830; although it continued to be an important cultural center until World War II).
