Powell is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Powell were French traders in 1795. They named it after General George Washington's estate on the Muskingum River in Virginia. A post office was established in 1802, and the town continued to grow until it had a population of 3,500 by 1880. The city of Powell was formally incorporated as a city on December 12, 1903. The City of Powell merged with the village of Northfield on February 2, 1907 to form the current city of Powell. Street names are given starting from east and going clockwise around each block: Main Street (the north-south artery), Elmira Avenue (the east-west artery), Business Avenue (the south-north artery), Highland Boulevard (the west-east avenue), Clinton Avenue (the north-south avenue). In addition to its namesake creek which flows through most of towncenter between Broadview Drive and West Third Street., Powell also has one major park located near downtown - Scenic Park Meadows that surrounds an area including several golf courses as well as water sports areas such as fishing lakes and boating docks

Powell, Ohio was founded in 1803 by General John Powell and is the oldest continuously inhabited town in the state of Ohio. The town originally comprised five settlements: East Liverpool, West Liverpool, Beech Grove, Springvale, and Pittsfield. In 1825, the towns of North Bend and South Bend were annexed to Powell. The population of Powell peaked at around 10,000 in 1890 but has since declined slightly to 7500 as of 2010. The history of Powell can be traced back to the era before Ohio became a state. When it was first settled by Europeans in the early 1800s, Powell was part of what is now Kentucky. General John Powell arrived here in 1803 on horseback after marching through much of central Ohio searching for a place to settle down and create his own community. He soon realized that there wasn’t any land available for him to purchase and so he set out looking for another home. After traveling many miles he came upon a small cove on the Scioto River which he decided would be perfect for his new community. He named it “Powell” after himself and started construction on his new settlement within 24 days from landfall! Over time, other pioneers followed General Powell into this new community and soon it had become one of the most important towns in central Ohio due to its location near major transportation hubs such as Toledo (2 hours away) and Cincinnati (1 1/2 hours away). By 1870, when Ohio became a state, Powell had shrunken significantly to just 350 residents but still played an important role in American culture due to its position as headquarters for several major businesses including Colt Firearms Company and Wells Fargo Bank. Today remnants of this ancient community can be found scattered throughout downtown Powell although access is not always easy or affordable; however overall it remains an important part of our state’s history!

It is located in the eastern portion of Butler County on the southern bank of the Scioto River. The school district that Powell serves includes parts of western Warren and northern Lucas counties as well as parts of central Hancock County. The first permanent settler in Powell was George Washington Powell who built a cabin in 1796 along with his wife Susannah and two children, John and Anna. The village grew up around this settlement until 1810 when it became part of Defiance Township under the leadership of Captain Ebenezer Smithwick who laid out a road from Portsmouth todefiance In 1812, Powell's daughter Anna married David Ladd who owned land near present day Defiance In 1814, David Ladd moved his family to what is now Cincinnati where he started an exchange business between Great Britain and America He also served as captain for Her Majesty's Army during the War for American independence which took place from 1775-1783 Ladd became involved with politics after leaving America and was elected mayor of Cincinnati in 1800 He then served as speaker from 1800-1801 before being elected governor in 1802 . In 1805, he took office as president pro tempore over Thomas Jefferson’s objections He resigned from office after one term due to health problems
