Powell, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Clermont County. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus–Middletown, OH-KY–IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Powell was David Hodge in 1814. A post office called Powell was established in 1824, and remained in use until 1830. The town came to be named for General George Washington Powell, who served as a brigadier general during the American Revolution and as Secretary of War under President James K. Polk. The city began to grow rapidly after incorporation on July 1, 1836, with an influx of soldiers from the Mexican War and thereafter many new settlers from all over Ohio and Kentucky (the so-called "Great Migration"). By 1840, there were more than 2,000 residents living in Powell; by 1860 there were 10,000 residents living there alone! In 1870 alone, Powell's population had increased to 20,000! In 1907 it became one of the twenty cities designated by Congress as sites for technological research centers due to its location at a crossroads between Lake Erie and Pennsylvania (thus becoming known as "pioneering city"). In 1933 Representative John F Kennedy made history when he became only the second U.S. president to visit Cleveland while still serving as governor of Massachusetts! On November 3rd that year he delivered his famous speech before 250000 people at Quicken Loans Arena calling for economic reform including national debt reduction through a balanced budget amendment - effectively starting what would become known as modern day conservatism within America! In 1990s Powell experienced rapid economic growth due to several factors such as manufacturing relocations throughout central Ohio (AIG being one notable company), Cocoa Puffs production moving out into Mexico City following deregulation which caused prices for cocoa beans to plummet relative to other commodity crops (a key factor leading directly to mass layoffs), increased accession by neighboring states surrounding Dayton along with Perrysburg's annexation into Cincinnati making Dayton essentially metropolitan government number two; significant investment being made into public transportation options such as busing children across town from Oak Hills Elementary School directly down Euclid Avenue which makes getting around much easier today than ever before; also resulting in revitalization efforts undertaken upon reopening of downtown streetscape following decades of neglect

Powell is a small town in central Ohio, United States. It is located on the Scioto River, west of the city of Columbus. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. Powell was named for General James A. Powell, who fought in the Mexican-American War and in the American Civil War. The first settlers to Powell were Andrew and Deborah Ford in 1792. In 1824, John Dickey settled there with his family from Kentucky. The Dickey brothers were among the first white men to plow and farm in what is now Powell. They built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Scioto River and became early pioneers of this community. In 1827, Nicholas Putnam arrived from Vermont with his family and started trading goods with local Indians along the Scioto River. He organized a Methodist church in Powell that same year and named it after himself – Nicholas Putnam Methodist Church (now part of First Baptist Church). In 1830, he married Polly Ann Posthumus of Delaware County, Ohio; they had five children: PollyAnn (1830–1901), James A., Daniel P., Nancy C.,and Sarah E.(1831–1920). Putnam served as pastor of First Methodist Church until his death in 1901. His wife also served as an interlocutor for various Native American treaties between 1825 and 1840 when she lived northeast of Portsmouth on land owned by her brother-in-law Fort Wayne businessman George Rogers Clark Jr.. One daughter – Nancy C.–migrated to America with her parents around 1850s when they received word their father’s land east of Portsmouth had been taken away by Indian authorities under Order 9 from President James Kenedy Hancock despite petitions from settler families.) On October 12th 1865 John Bircher sold 10 acres northwest of present day Powell for $5 per acre to Colonel Augustus Cleveland IV about four miles southwest of where he now lives just east off I-71 exit 71A near Xenia CreekPA colonel then put up store inside house

In 1798, Powell's father, John Powell Jr., constructed an early mill on the river. The town attained significant development after it was made a part of the federal government in 1800. In 1801, Powell's brother-in-law James Caldwell purchased property within the town Limits to build what would become Caldwellsville. After becoming a part of Ohio, Powell experienced modest growth until it achieved national attention due to its role in helping lead nation into war against Mexico in 1846.
