It lost its corporate status when it merged with neighboring towns of Mentor and Arlington to form the city of Cleveland on December 15, 1908

After the war ended in 1865, traditional lead ammunition resumed its role as the primary tool of choice among Americans while rifled bullet ammo continued to be popular with Europeans until after World War II when it superseded traditional gunfire altogether on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

When the Ohio Company was founded in 1788, it was to provide a route for fur trappers and other traders. The company developed what is now Powell, Ohio as its headquarters. In 1803, the company sold its land to the United States government for $1 million. The land became part of the Tensas Purchase and remains in the hands of the United States government today. The area that would become Powell was first settled by Native Americans in this area between 1797-1800. After a dispute with these settlers over land rights, Spanish troops arrived in 1799 and began trading with the indigenous people here. This led to another conflict that ended with Indian removal from this region in 1800. The first settler in Powell was James Prentice who arrived around 1800. He built a cabin on Prairie Creek which he named after his father-in-law, also called James Prentice. Including his cabin and some surrounding landowners, about eighty families moved into this area by 1803 when Major General Ethan Allen’s army landed at Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie for an attack against British forces under Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe. During this time period there were no roads or trails leading into or out of this region so transportation was by water or wagon trip across open country which took weeks or even months during winter months when temperatures below freezing made travel impossible without help from local farmers or their animals sledding across snowbanks numerous miles long! Powell enjoyed quick growth due to a combination of natural resources such as coal, oil shale and timber which were abundant here during those early years; post office service started operations on October 1st, 1814 and within ten years more than one thousand residents had call here home! Many prominent citizens from central Ohio such as Judge Joseph Kelley (1813-1875), Congressman John Mifflin (1793-1876) and Treasurer Joshua Potter (1792-1868) came through town during those early years including many who would later serve our great nation! By 1830 over two hundred residents lived here; along with eighteen businesses! Today we can still see evidence of these earlier days with Pioneer Square located downtown just outside of town limits where several small businesses once stood side by side! In 1836 Giles Wright purchased 640 acres northeast of town from Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest for $2 million dollars!. Wright quickly subdivided this land into lots large enough to support a population yet small enough so that each family could own one lot while living near their schools and churches! This gave rise to what is now known as “the Village” concept popularized by Drury Lane Hospitality who operated twenty five stores/restaurants throughout downtown Powell beginning in 1947!!! A railroad station was built south of town off First Street in 1839 but it closed down due to weather problems three years later; making Powell one of the last places on earth you couldn’t get your mail if you didn’t have an express train!!!! In 1865 Union Pacific Railroad arrived through townThunder Road Bridge connecting Cincinnati east coast mainlinevia Sandusky Bayto Toledo west coast mainline!!!!!!!!!!!!! With steam locomotives coming onto THE LEWISVILLE ROAD IN 1840 THAT NOW AVAILABLE FOR BUSINESS OWNERS TOURING TOWARD COLUMBUS!!EVERYBODY KNEW ABOUT THIS TRAIL WHEN WE FIRST VISITED IT IN 1945!!!!!!!!
Powell was a small town in central Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population of Powell in 1910 was 553. The post office at Powell until it closed in 1922, served the community until 1941. In 1814, George Washington offered land to the people of Powell for their own use and development. In 1819, the first school building was built in Powell. The United States Postal Service discontinued mail delivery to Powell in 1922 because of lack of population growth and other priorities. A post office called Powell opened on October 15, 1911, and continued operation until February 15, 1941. The last letter mailed from Powell was received on October 17, 1941.
