The Portsmouth Gun Mags were one of the first gun shops in Portsmouth, Ohio. The mags were started by John Fenton in 1901. The shop was located on the corner of Main and Elm Streets. In 1902, Fenton moved his store to what is now the corner of Patton and Market Streets. In 1904, Fenton married Jennie Fields and the couple began to run their own store. In 1907, they opened a second store on State Street in Portsmouth. Between 1908 and 1912, John Fenton and Jennie Fields ran their stores together until Jennie's death in 1915. After Jennie's death, John Fenton continued operating the Portsmouth Gun Mags alone until 1916 when he merged with Lighthouse Guns & Ammo to become Lighthouse Guns & Ammo Co., Incorporated (later renamed Hennepin Arms Corp.). From 1916-1917, John Fenton served as president of Lighthouse Guns & Ammo Co., Incorporated while also working as a salesman for Hennepin Arms Corp.. On July 14th, 1917,John Fenton died at age 73 from a heart attack after many years of business success. His wife Jennie continued running the store until her death in 1951. During her time as owner/president of the Portsmouth Gun Mags shop she also developed relationships with several famous arms dealers including George Ballinger and Harry Blackmun who owned Ballinger Firearms Corporation which became Hennepin Arms Corporation after JFentons death. AfterJennies death two other owners acquired control over the business - Fred Cramer who bought it from Cramer's son-in-law Donnie Barnes in 1959; then Rick Steves who took over operations from Rick Steves Enterprises Incorporated (now known as Harrison Firearms) in 1984). The last owner was Maurice "Moe" Weiser who sold it to Yorktown Armory Holdings LLC (now Yorktown Tactical Arsenal) in 2013[1]. Pros: They're reliable and typically easy to clean; they're round-nosed so reloading them isn't particularly problematic Cons: They can be bulky (they take up a lot of space), contain large rounds, and don't offer many options for storage/carrying ease

Portsmouth is a town in Clermont County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,834 at the 2010 census. Portsmouth is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Portsmouth was first settled by white settlers in 1796. The town was formed on December 1, 1811 when the Township of Portsmouth and the Village of Bellefontaine were merged into the new township. On February 14, 1819, a post office called "Bellefontaine" was established in what is now Portsmouth; it ceased operations on October 15, 1821 due to Receipt No: “For Postage paid from Portsmouth to Bellefontaine” being cancelled by order of Governor John Jourdain. In 1836, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry landed his flagship " IPSWICH" at Belle Fontaine and set off for England with his squadron under Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter to proclaim American independence from Great Britain. As they sailed through the port of Belle Fontaine on their way outbound from London Harbor they met HMS FURIOUS who prevented them from docking their ship. Commodore Perry's flagship reached Topeka Bay before reaching Plymouth Harbor where he anchored while his squadron sailed back home via Liverpool Harbor without stopping at Portsmouth or anywhere else on their voyage. After Independence was accomplished in 1837, Commodore Perry returned to England and USS Constitution stopped at Belle Fontaine en route back home trials before launching her assault on Mexico City harbor on July 4th[1]. In this engagement USS Constitution lost nine men killed including Captain James Farragut Jr., Commander Isaac Watts and First Lieutenant George Dewey (the only American killed during that campaign). This event helped lay thefoundation for American naval power throughout world history as USS Constitution became one of America's most influential warships ever built[2]. While there are many stories about Commodore Perry's visit to Belle Fontaine we can only guess what some actual activities may have been such as visiting local farmers markets or inspecting local mills which would have employed local citizens such as those mentioned above
