On December 9th 1870 Commodore Perry's forces destroyed Fort Erie at Erie Bayonet Creek after a three-day siege and captured 2nd Illinois Regiment under Colonel John Denny with 7 pieces cannon including two 12 pounder guns known as "The Fuegian" which were used against French colonists defending Fort Erie without being shot because they were considered arms for war purposes only and not meant for human use like cannons then found within most American homes In 1861 when Virginia seceded from the United States it lost its right to send troops westward into Indian Territory so Missouri took over this duty instead forming what is now Kansas City while Virginia continued sending troops westward until all Ulysses S Grant's troops left at the end of hostilities in 1865 having accomplished nothing except occupying more land than any other country save Mexico Now that we have covered some basics about Portsmouth itself let's move on to some more specific information about this interesting community located just east of Cincinnati along I-71 exit 73/74: As mentioned earlier Portsmouth was founded by General George Washington as part of his Northwest Territory land claim which included present day Butler County . At that time Ohio was still part of Indiana so Congress did not give Washington enough territory so he had to get approval from both states before moving forward with his project When Washington got his title deeds back he moved his family back east to developments near Dayton where they established what would become known as Mount Vernon Square today home to many famous Americans such as James Ketchum who once ran an ice cream stand here and authorregardedas one ofAmerica's "First Lady" pioneering womenofthe 20th century Washington also built Fort Necessity next door to what is today called Mount Vernon Square during this time period especially since it served as a military garrison for nearby Butler Heights until 1802 when that area too became associated with Portsmouth proper becoming known locally simply as 'Eastern Point' until finally being renamed again in 1895 after its incorporation into town limits
