Piqua is a city in the southwestern Ohio region, United States. The population was 26,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County. Piqua was founded in 1824 by John Davenport and his family as a small village on the Piqua River. On July 2 that year, Mayor James Fenton dedicated the new City Hall Annexe Building which served as City Hall until 1961 when it was replaced by the current building located at 4th and Elm Streets. The original Main Street in downtown Piqua ran from Walnut Street east to Market Street (now Winton Road). It crossed I-675 near where US 20 joins Interstate 75 southbound concurrent with Walnut Street before turning north on Elm Street to cross US 20 again before terminating at 4th Street near Union Terminal (the old Woodward Hotel). Downtown Pqua also boasted two churches: First Methodist on MainStreet between Elm and Walnut Streets and Second Presbyterian Church on Fourth Avenue between Walnut and Elm Streets – both were destroyed during World War II but their ashes still remain within walking distance of downtown today! petition drive for restoration started in early 2007 ended up succeeding after donations came in from all over America! Piqua was founded in 1795 by Captain John Piqua and his wife, the former Rebecca Harding. The area that is now Piqua was first settled by the Shawnee, who were forced to move from their original home in central Ohio because of Indian hostilities. In 1806, United States forces burned down the Shawnee village near present-day Piqua after they refused to leave because they wanted to maintain their traditional hunting grounds. The town’s namesake, John Piqua, arrived in 1814 as surveyor for the U.S. government in what is now Michigan Territory. He encouraged settlement of what would become Piqua County and helped lay out a road between Toledo and Cincinnati that became known as the “Pequot Trail.” In 1821, General David Beatty commissioned Captain John Pique (John Pitt) to establish a military post at the junction of present-day I-71 and State Route 9 west of downtown Piqua. This was called Fort Dearborn; it remained in service until 1908 when it was decommissioned and sold for scrap metal purposes. In 1826, Captain John Fenton organized a lumber company which became one of the largest landowners in central Ohio. He also built landowning families such as the Beavers and Hartsfields into prominent local residents; these families continue to play an important role in local history today. After several years of construction on this new highway system, Colonel Robert Stephenson donated 4 square miles (10 km²) of land north of downtown Piqua on which he built his famous railroad station – L&N Railroad Station – becoming one of America’s most prominent symbols of technological progress during its early days. During World War II, L&N Railroad Station served as a training ground for American troops before they went off to fight against Nazi Germany; afterwards it reverted back to its original name – Station Road Warehouse – until being demolished in 1984 following a fire at L&N Railroad Station which destroyed much equipment used for storage and caused extensive damage). In 1907, Progress Insurance Company opened its doors within minutes of opening day on Main Street east Of Main Street inside what is now First National Bank Building (now part of JCPenney). This marked an important milestone not only because Progress Insurance Company became one of America’s first insurance companies with offices outside cities but also because it represented Cleveland’s first major commercial development since AIG had relocated there from New York City two years earlier!
