Piqua is a city in northwest Ohio, United States. The population was 39,865 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County and home to the Piqua Municipal Airport. The name comes from an 1834 Indian attack on a group of settlers near present-day Piqua, which resulted in the loss of three men and one boy, Pikaque. The first Europeans to visit what is now Piqua were French missionaries in 1795. In 1803, General John Forbes led a military expedition against the Shawnee Indians and discovered land that would become Piqua Township. The town was platted in 1806 by James Kapp and named for Pierre-Simon La Salle's exploit of finding water at Springstown on Shiawassee River some miles (3 km) south of modern-day Piqua. In 1815, when Fort Pitt was founded on Sandusky Bayou near modern-day Toledo, Ohio by Ulysses S. Grant as part of his campaign against Tecumseh's rebellion, fur traders began trading with the Shawnee in what became known as "the forks." When Fort Pitt closed its doors for lack of customers in 1817 after reports arrived back home about American gold discoveries along the Mexican border being richer than ever before, Kapp decided to start over again with an idea he had heard from a Creek trader: If he could get people to build a small fort around where Springstown existed today – just east of what is now inner alley between First National Bank and Second National Bank streets – Kapp could watch traders coming and going while keeping an eye out for any possible raids or other problems among their Native neighbours acrossriver. In 1830–31 Mennonite pastor Friedrich Wessel established Wesselsville west of present-day downtown; this developed into West Side Village adjacent to northside village until it lost its township status following annexation by Cleveland in 1901). After German immigrants started arriving from Alsace during World War I (and more specifically those who had been living entrenched along Lake Erie), they quickly outnumbered English speakers within town limits; accordingly, early 1921 ordinances designated all Germans residents "alien aliens" rather than "naturalized citizens." This designation continued through World War II when most Germans emigrated to northern Germany or North America; however some individuals reverted back to citizenship upon their return (e.g., Julius Schaefer). Three years passed since much activity had taken place within town boundaries including two years during which there was no physical settlement due largely to lack funding available from government coffers; then came November 4th 1929 when $5 million dollars worth of bond issues were issued anticipation thereof resulting in 1 million dollars worth - real estate investments - becoming available within minutes throughout downtown area immediately surrounding municipal airport with only limited access opening up more recently constructed businesses such as physician’s office/hospital space currently located on opposite side street providing easy parking lot access off runway nearest terminal building buildings essentially surrounded by large industrial area type development project now almost complete covering most acreage previously used for agriculture with open space remaining approximately 3/4ths usable

Piqua, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Tuscarawas County. The population was 61,571 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Piqua area has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two thousand years. In 1792, General George Washington discovered land on which Piqua would be founded and named it after Mount Vernon in Virginia, though no evidence exists to support this claim. The first settler in what is now Piqua was John Dickinson who arrived in 1800 from Pennsylvania with his family under the leadership of General Anthony Wayne. They built a log cabin on the banks of Saginaw River near present-day Piqua Heights Cemetery before moving to central town in 1802 and starting a gristmill that became one of the largest mills in Northwest Ohio. Eventually they acquired other properties around present-day downtown Piqua before they sold their entire holdings to John Dolan in 1811 for $8500 USD$. One year later, Dolan donated all but four acres (2 km²) of his mill lot to Erie Canal builders as an inducement for them to build a canal through his lands adjacent to Saginaw River (). Dolan's donation created much interest among canal builders due to its location and also because he had connections with both British Crown Prince George III and Ulysses S Grant (), who were then president of the United States (). After many delays and cost overruns, construction began on the Erie Canal on July 16th, 1825 and finished 9 months later on October 24th () providing settlers in what is now Piqua access to jobs outside their homes while helping stimulate economic growth throughout Northeast Ohio (). The city's original name was "Erie" until voters decided that it should be changed when they learned about King William's War (), which took place within miles of their city center (). Afterward, residents reverted back to using their original names until 1952 when they again changed them when they became members of The City Of Cleveland Incorporated (); however some continue use "Pqua" or variations thereof today even though nothing historic or cultural happens there under that name anymore.Kahneman & Tversky (2007). In 1951 local officials renamed it "Pqua" after Chauncey Greene Posthumously received this honor from then Mayor David Auerbach (). At first only African American citizens could vote but soon enough all citizens were able to do so except property owners who still owned voting rights according as long as they resided elsewhere inside municipal limits. In 1978 residents voted 2-1 notto change the name again following complaints from people living outside Municipality limits who felt like their civil rights had been violated. Finally on November 4th 1990PSACRES recommended against any major changes being made pending more study; ultimately no changes occurred. Today 'Pqua' remains an honored name despite little cultural activity taking place within its boundaries as most citizens nowadays reside within Municipal limits without any voting rights unlike fifty years ago where anyone could live anywhere inside Municipal limits without owning property therein.
