Piqua is a small town in the northwestern part of Ohio. It is bordered by Trumbull County to the north, Clinton County to the east, and Muskingum County to the south. These two transportation arteries were key drivers of growth in early 20th century Piqua. During World War I, many factories were set up in Piqua including those belonging to Ford Motor Company, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Armour Electric Powder Co., Singer Sewing Machine Corporation, J comparisons Clothing Company (later Allied Signal) and others which employed thousands of workers across northern Ohio. After V-E Day in 1945 many companies closed their doors or shifted production out of northwestern Ohio into other states because war industry had declined rapidly after victory over Nazi Germany
Piqua was founded in 1814 as a small town on the Scioto River. The first post office was established in 1815, and the first store opened in 1817. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, and by 1830 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1836, Piqua became an incorporated city, and in 1908 it became part of Cleveland.
