Pickerington is a small town in the northwest corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Pickerington comes from an early settler, Dr. John Pickering, who arrived in 1785 and named his farm "Pickerington". The first post office was established in 1802 and was called "Newburgh". The current full name is Pickerington Township, Ohio. Pickerington has a rich history dating back to its earliest days as a trading post on the Great Miami River between Lebanon and Cincinnati. In 1801, George Rogers Clark founded what would become Cincinnati and began trading with Native Americans here for goods such as beads and trade goods like tobacco. He also built Fortification Hill in nearby Poweshiek County to protect his traders from possible attack by Creek Indians. By 1800, there were over 100 white settlers living in what is now Pickerington Township (of which only about 10% remain today). In 1803-4 General Andrew Jackson fought a battle against Native Americans near present day Uniontown in what is now Hocking County; the victory led to increased American interest in this area for agriculture and construction of military roads connecting Ohio country with Kentucky and Tennessee across the Cumberland Mountains. As new farming settlements developed along these routes during this time period – including Pickerington – American Indian raids within our borders became less common. One important outcome of this increased activity was that Pickerton’s original courthouse building burned down on November 15th, 1815 while under construction by Timothy Henshaw (founder of Delaware County), killing all eight officials working on it at the time including future Ulysses S Grant who had just taken office as President of US soil four days earlier! Although never rebuilt (likely destroyed by fire), today’s First Congregational Church “built upon foundations laid down by early German settlers” stands as one of Pickerton’s most unique landmarks still standing today – visible from both Dayton Avenue southward towards downtown Columbus throughout much of each day whether or not it rains! Unfortunately for local historians over recent decades many details about those fateful building fires have been lost forever due to changes made to local zoning ordinances following various fires that ravaged communities across central Ohio during THAT era…. thankfully some researchers are once again trying to piece together some more information about that particular historic fire HERE! Today's economy depends largely upon manufacturing but also includes services such as education/healthcare/technology/software development etc., although many residents still work outside their homes or commute into larger cities for these jobs; however quite a few Still maintain farms providing produce & flowers year-round…. very much reminiscent of pioneer times when everyone depended upon their land holding skills & family support

Pickerington is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,841 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Beacon Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pickerington was platted on February 14, 1807 by James Pickering and others under the name of "Newburgh." The town was renamed after George Pickering, 2nd Viscount Botetourt (1780-1858), an English peer who had fought in North America during the American Revolutionary War and became a U.S. Senator from Ohio. The first school in Pickerington was built on what is now First Street in 1809. In 1814, the first church was built and service began there that same year. A post office called Newburgh was established in 1816, and it remained in operation until 1907. Pickerington has experienced growth throughout its history; over time it has become one of Dayton's most populous neighborhoods with over 100 businesses operating within its borders alone! One reason for this growth may be its location - just minutes away from major highways I-75 and I-275 as well as other important thoroughfares such as Fourth Street which leads to Middletown and Beavercreek Township! Additionally, many residents have contributed to Pickerington's success through their entrepreneurship - from small business owners to professional engineers!
