Pickerington, Ohio is a town located in the northwestern part of Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 14,898 at the 2010 census. It is the economic and social center of the community. Pickerington lies on the eastern border of Trumbull Township. The first rifles were brought to Pickerington by two men named James Cook and Daniel Webster in 1836. They built a mill here and began manufacturing rifles for sale throughout their region. The company became known as Cook & Webster Rifle Company and continue production until 1892 when they merged with Regent Manufacturing Company to form Regent-Cook Arms Company Incorporated. In 1898, they founded Richardson Rifle Workshops which continued to produce rifles until 1938 when all rifle production was discontinued due to World War II. Pickerington's history can be traced back to 1795 when Robert Pickering purchased land at what is now Fourth Street and State Road 20 in present-day Pickerington from a group of settlers led by Jonathan Dayton. He erected a cabin here and started farming his land which he traded Spoiler for goods from other farmers in Trumbull County during the early 1800s. In 1804, he married Jane Bicknell who had also come from Trumbull County some time earlier than he did; they had four children together before she died in 1827. Robert Pickerington remained active in local business affairs until his death in 1862; he was buried at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery where many of his descendants still reside today including Congressman John Conyers Jr.. After Robert's death, Jane's sister Anna Palmyra Pickerinton took over running the farm until her husband Edwin bought it back around 1830s or 1840s while Anna lived with her niece Sarah Ann White widow of George White near East Side (now North Side) alley on Third Street between High Street and Vine Street). From this point forward, it would be Anna who ran things as an absentee proprietor until about 1840 or 1850 when she sold it back to her niece Sarah Ann White widow of George White who kept it until 1886 when MaryAnn Saunders bought it from her niece Sarah Ann White widow of George White making picketingTON (pickingerton) its permanent name--MaryAnn Saunders' Place... thus setting off continuing family feuding between sisters that would last through much of our current day!

Today’s community takes its name from Captain John Pickering who first arrived here circa 1800 Some residents may remember him foremost because he donated land which formed parts of downtown today Furthermore although historical marker indicate otherwise there are good evidence that early settlers knew about this section called “Pickerton” long before it received its current name
