However, thanks to his efforts as mayor from 1902-1905 and as chairman of trustees for Dearborn Heights School District No. 1 (later Cleveland Municipal Schools),John Davenport Sr., one of history's most significant private philanthropists,[1][2] helped revive Dearborn Heights' economy during this time period[3]. Upon his death in 1925,[4],Dearborn Heights asked Godfrey Sargent Jr., then president and CEO emeritus United States Steel Corporation[5],to rename their city after him – which He did on October 5th 1930.[6] Pickerington is located at (41°22′18″N 86°10′38″W). By 1840, Pickerington had over 100 businesses accounting for more than $1 million worth of business during that year alone; this economic prosperity continued through much of the 19th century until declines following World War I led to increased poverty and social unrest culminating in the American Civil War when prosperous Pickerinton residents sided with Confederate forces while poor rural residents supported Union troops
