The town has experienced growth over the past few decades, withresidential development taking place throughout downtown and along two main arterials - State Route 330 and Erie Street - which form its eastern border. Commercial areas have sprung up around several businesses such as Meijer Inc., JCPenney, Academy Video Games and other major retailers. A number of new churches have also been built in recent years, including Christ United Methodist Church (founded in 1984), First Baptist Church (founded in 1892) and Bethlehem Lutheran Church (established in 1916). Pickerington is home to several cultural attractions, including Oneonta Music Hall (opened in 1997), Parma Heights Park (the largest open space within walking distance of any city or town in Ohio) and the Pickerton Museum of Art which opened in 2006. In addition to its natural amenities such as waterfalls and parks near downtown, the community offers a variety of services that residents may find useful, such as library access with card membership or use of internet cafés available for purchase or rent inside businesses.

Pickerington is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located just north of Dayton. As of the 2010 census, the population was 382. The community was named for John Pickering, an early settler and postmaster in what is now Pickerington Township. The first permanent European settlers arrived here in 1788. Pickerington was incorporated as a village on December 13, 1892 from portions of Scioto Township and Park Township. It became a city on January 1, 1959. The area that makes up modern-day Pickerington were laid out by Major John Pickering in 1788 as part of the land grants he received from the British Crown for his services during the American Revolution. He founded what is now known as Pickeringtonsville on what is now State Route 10 east of present-day Dayton after purchase from the French Canadian militia general Jean Baptiste L’Enfant for $1 per acre (0 €/$0 £). In 1800, John's grandson Daniel Prentice built a cabin here and named it Prenticestown after himself and another grandson, also Daniel Prentice (1768–1844), who had purchased some adjoining land two years earlier from Colonel James Mooney at a cost of $6000 (). In 1802, when Pennsylvania began to develop its western border through purchases made with Indian lands west of Lake Erie by President George Washington's administration under Treaty No.(7) between Great Britain and America – including most importantly Chardon County – then called Northwest Territory – much of present-day Ohio occurred within this newly acquired territory including parts of Scioto County west of Dayton; Van Buren County east thereof; Putnam County north thereof; Meigs County south thereof: all lying within “the limits aforesaid” which were ceded to Pennsylvania by France at Paris on July 14th 1783 ([8]) .
