Pickerington is a small town in central Ohio, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Akron, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pickerington was founded by Captain John Pickering in 1794 as a fur trading post on the Great Miami River. The name originated from an Indian word meaning "a place to hide." In 1814, Pickerington became a county seat and remained so until 1914 when it became a town. The first settler in Pickerington was George Hennigan in 1800. He built a cabin on the east side of Main Street where he lived until 1812 when he sold his land to James Caldwell for $1,000. A store and hotel were built soon after around which business grew until 1830 when John Stephenson bought the store from Caldwell and continued to operate it until his death in 1840. In 1824, General David Wilkinson organized troupes of volunteers for the anti-slavery movement and named them " picketers" because they would encamp outside slave markets during their peaceful protests. After few weeks of operations, Wilkinson ordered his men back home due to lack of success; however, this example instilled confidence within those who participated that their cause could be successful. In 1827, Jephson Peebles purchased an interest in Stephenson's store and developed what is now known as Peebles Place into one of Pickerington's most important commercial districts early 20th century commerce thrived with several stores including The Gilded Age Store (now occupied by Oneida Bank), Mr & Mrs Smith's hardware store (now occupied by Builders Supply Co.), Sears & Roebuck's department store (now occupied by GMC), Mrs Arbuckle’s bakery (now closed), Wm Dickey’s mercantile establishment (closed since 1978) and several others which can still be seen today including The Brown Derby restaurant complex located on Third Street between College Avenue and High Street which operated from 1911-1998 A new water tower was completed in 1907 providing improved water service to residents while also contributing to growth within the community during this time period due largely to increased agricultural production caused by irrigation techniques then being pioneered such as drip irrigation following World War I developments The first high school attended through unified public education system opened its doors here on September 14th 1947 with grades 6-8 followed shortly thereafter by junior high school grades 9-12

Pickerington is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. The name Pickerington comes from the place where it was laid out in 1811 by John Pickering and James Caldwell. It was named for General George Washington's birthplace and home county of Virginia. The townsite lay within what is now Delaware County on the territory of present-day Butler Township (later Clinton Township), which then included parts of Defiance and Perry counties. On July 12, 1811, General George Washington founded Pickerington as a post office with a population of three people; it served until December 31, 1812. At that point, the post office passed to Butlerstown. In 1830–31, part of Defiance County became part of Trumbull township; however, Defiance remained an separate municipality until its annexation by Pickerington in 1907. In 1840s and 1850s farmsteads were established around or near what is now Main Street in downtown Pickerington; these structures still stand today including Grade School No. 1 on Main Street and Mrs. White's house on North High Street (now Third Avenue). However due to lack of water supply after the Sandusky Creek Flood in 1951–52 most buildings were abandoned until 1978 when they were razed to make way for an idled quarry damaging many homes along the way including Mrs. White's house which still stands today as a historical landmark overlooking Main Street Today much of Downtown Pickerington has been renovated into modern commercial uses while some older residences have been preserved as Historical Landmarks such as Mrs White's House
Pickerington is located in the southern portion of Ohio and was founded by German immigrants in 1796. The settlement grew rapidly due to the opening of the Erie Canal, which allowed for easy transportation of goods to and from Pennsylvania. In 1815, Pickerington became a town and was named after Sir John Pickering, an Englishman who had invested in the canal. The town experienced rapid growth during the 19th century thanks to its strategic location on the route between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. However, during World War II, Pickerington was devastated by bombing raids from the Japanese army. Consequently, it has since undergone a number of revitalization efforts over the past few decades.Today, Pickerington is a thriving community with a diverse economy based primarily on agriculture and manufacturing. It is home to several cultural attractions such as The Shakespeare Theatre Company and The First Presbyterian Church (Old Synagogue).
