Pickerington is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,036 at the 2010 census. It is the largest settlement in Stark County and home to the Pickerington University campus. The first permanent settler in what is now Pickerington was James Caldwell, who built a log cabin on the banks of the Scioto River in 1812. In 1813, he married Susannah Beecham and they moved to what is now Adams Township. In 1816, John Pickering sold his land to David Stockbridge and settlers began arriving from Indiana and other states. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in Pickerington. In 1830, David Stockbridge donated land for a school district that would serve eastern Stark County. He also founded the First National Bank of Pickerington which became one of Ohio's largest commercial institutions. The town developed rapidly around the bank and post office buildings that were erected during this time period. In 1835, he added another parcel of land to make up present-day downtown Pickerington. During World War II, many local businesses closed their doors due to wartime rationing but picked up again after troops returned home; some continue operations today as Checkers Barbecue & Pizza Shack (www). On July 15th 1930 picketers carryingUSA flags marched through downtownPickeringtonto demand unemployment insurance for locals facing layoffs from American Motors Corporation (AMC). This event served as an early precursor to activism against joblessness during the Great Depression years later when unemployment rates skyrocketed nationally due to advances in new technology such as Fordism and assembly line production methods which favored large corporation over small businesses throughout most industries across America.).

Pickerington, Ohio is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the Eighteen (18) Towns in Mahoning County and one of the older towns in the county. Pickerington was founded by General David Pickering on November 10, 1814 as part of land granted to him by President James K. Polk after his victory over Mexican forces at Buena Vista Heights. The original buildings were built on what is now State Route 158 and First Street. The first post office been established in Pickerington on December 3, 1824 with Fenton as its mailing address. In 1827, Colonel John Cranch moved from Bellefontaine to become Postmaster and set up an office in the old Methodist church building which he had purchased from Joseph Hinkle two years earlier for $2 per acre (1/4 mile²). After serving for six months he resigned due to health reasons and was succeeded by his son-in-law Samuel Sibley who served until 1830 when he also resigned because of health problems. Mrs. Sibley then served for three years before she too resigned citing health concerns caused by rheumatism which she had contracted while working as a dressmaker's maid in Carlisle Barracks during the War of 1812 service between America and Great Britain In 1837 Major John Loughborough set up a post office at what is now Main Street corner Second Avenue after purchasing land east of where it currently stands from James Garity who also owned part ofWHAT became Pickerington Township in 1840 The first school opened in Pickerington Township on October 8th, 1840 under instruction from Reverend Nathan Hawthorne Pickerington residents voted on January 14th, 1841 to incorporate as a town based on their desire to have more control over their lives within their own community On March 17th 1870 General David Owen arrived with orders to suppress Native American resistance against white settlers and laid siege to Fort Pitt near present day Lancaster, Pennsylvania leading to Battle of Monongahela leading 20 dead including 12 Americans and 5 British Soldiers including Captain Robert Ewing . On April 11th 1870 General Owen withdrew his force following news that General George Washington would be arriving later that day with reinforcements numbering 1,500 men en route from Philadelphia . Aftermath General David Owen ordered all Indian hostilities stopped

A post office called Pickerington was established in 1825 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. The town started as a stop on the Erie Canal and quickly became an important transportation center for farmers and traders travelling between Putnam County to Grantsburg and Lake Erie. Pickerinton's success as a commercial center allowed for rapid growth, with many homes being built before railroads came along to provide service and commerce within the community. In 1868, pickersTON incorporated as a village; it remains an unincorporated community today. In 1916, Pickerington became one of twelve communities that formed the new hometown area for American soldiers stationed overseas during World War I; this effort helped support local businesses while they were away from home, making PickerINGTON one of America’s biggest wartime trade centres ever!
