Stephenson, the founder of the Ohio Central Railroad, began manufacturing mortars in Pickerington. He needed a way to deliver his mortar shells so he commissioned an engineer to design a barrel that could hold up to the stress of being hit by a locomotive. This was the beginning of gun barrel manufacturing in Pickerington.

Gun barrels, also called gunstocks, are the metal pieces that attach the barrel of a firearm to the receiver. The purpose of a barrel is to deliver rounds to the target with accuracy and at the correct speed. Barrels can be made from brass, stainless steel, aluminum or carbon-steel. There are three basic types of barrels: breech-loading (BTL), rifled (RIL) and smoothbore (SB). Breech-loading guns use cartridges case-by-case to fire rounds down the barrel. The cartridge is inserted into a loading dock in front of the gun muzzleloader where it is combined with propellant gas and pressure from an internal magazine. As soon as these conditions are met, firing begins by pushing an armature forward which then moves the cartridge out of alignment with one or more chambers on either side of the bore axis. The projectile/round then goes into action by flying through air resistance along its trajectory until it hits something hard enough to cause detonation insideof another explosive device known as an actuating mechanism or primer charge. Once this happens, sparks fly out all around the projectile which ignite both powder charges and start making noise which tells other firearms what kind of round it is! Pickerington, Ohio is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. Pickerington is one of the oldest towns in Muskingum County and was first settled by Europeans in 1799. The town was named for John Pickering, an early settler. The Town of Pickerington was organized on November 6, 1811 from parts of the Village of Canfield and Township of Lisbon. On January 3, 1822, it became part of the new village of Athens. In 1868 the town merged with Athens to form the new city of Athens-Pickerington. During World War II Pickerington had 248 manufacturing jobs and produced munitions such as machine guns and tanks; however these layoffs have given rise to accusations that some residents benefited unfairly from wartime government largesse which they did not need or deserve because they were white/male/educated. There has been much discussion about whether or not this true discrimination continues today especially since most current employment opportunities are within commuting distance for many residents who still maintain close ties to their old villages
Pickerington is a small town in northwestern Ohio, United States. The population was 5,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima–Canton–Beaver County, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Pickerington were farmers who arrived around 1800. In 1814, Pickerington was incorporated as a village. On December 12, 1837, it became an incorporated town when all of Lima Township and parts of Canton Township merged into Pickerington. The name "Pickerington" comes from early settler Jonathan Pickersgill's family name and place of birth: Pickingford on the Scioto River in Northumberland County, England. The town plat for Pickerington was filed on February 11, 1838 and approved by the trustees on March 2nd. The first store opened in what is now the intersection of Elm Street and State Route 422 on November 3rd 1840. By 1850 there were six stores in town with a population of 1,500 people. In 1881-82 local merchant George Snyder donated land to build schools within Pickerington limits – one for each ward – creating what is now Valley View Elementary School and Valley View Middle School (now Forbes High School). A post office was established at pickerington in 1889; it closed down circa 1955 due to lack of mail service to the area after Lancaster Road underwent construction between Lima and Beechwood Cemetery that improved transportation options outside of Lima making it difficult for residents to send mail back home during times of famine or war shortages like those that occurred during World War I & II It wasn't until 1912 when a new electric street light system went up throughout town which replaced flickering oil lamps – finally solving darkness issues throughout most populated areas during those dark periods following railroads being built bringing more people & businesses into towns such as Lima) As well as many other things including better roads through annexation by other towns which allowed for more development opportunities angling towards Centerburg/Van Wert/Muncie etcetera but also less access to goods coming into central Ohio due to state canal routes leading out from near Mansfield so these communities slowly died off over time
