While most businesses closed during Prohibition (1920-1933), some reopened including Wm Hays & Sons Auctioneers which continued operations until 1951 after being nationalized by the US government under Operation Bootstrap." The community experienced another major boom during World War II with industries such as shipbuilding moving into town due to wartime needs such as munitions production." However, following World War II Perrysburg lost many jobs due to automation and deindustrialization while still experiencing high levels of poverty." Since 2000, however, growth has resumed with new businesses starting up in downtown while reductions in poverty have occurred overall within the community".

Perrysburg was founded in 1795 by John Perry and his family. The town was named after General Edward Braddock, who died in the Battle of Germantown in 1756. The Perrysburg Gazette was first published in 1800. In 1814, Obadiah Stratton purchased the land that would become Perrysburg from John Perry. The Stratton family resided there until 1919 when they moved to Soldiers' Village in nearby Fairfield Township.
