Perrysburg is a town in the United States, about 25 miles west of Cleveland. The population was 3,683 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cuyahoga County metropolitan area. The city was founded by George Washington and his army in 1796 during the French and Indian War as part of Fort Pitt; it was named for General John Perry, who had been killed in action that year. In 1803, Perrysburg became an enlarged village under the name of Sandusky; it reverted to its original name in 1828 when it became a town. The current boundaries were set out by an act of Congress on November 15, 1928. The first settler in Perrysburg was Elias Hodge, who arrived in December 1800 with his family from Portsmouth, England. He built a house on the site of today's Civic Center and called it "Hodge's Corner." Hodge's grandson also settled there and operated a gristmill until 1824 when he sold it to Peter Gasson. Gasson ran the mill until 1850 when he died; his son David inherited it and continued operation until 1862 when he sold it to Ebenezer Morse Sr.; Morse Jr.'s daughter married George Washington Carver (1827-1915), one of America's most famous scientists and educators, and converted the mill into what is now Carver Hall (named for him). In 1860, Morse Sr.'s son Ebenezer Morse Jr., also an educator, purchased land east of town along High Street which he donated to build Bellefontaine Academy which opened in 1870; after three years' occupancy, Bellefontaine merged with Franklin School District #3 to form Miami University 's Bellefontaine School District #2 on October 1st 1915 In 1916–1917 Perrysburg voters passed a $5 per week government support fund for local veterans which funded operations at local military bases Camp Grant (now West Side Highway) and Camp Chase (now Main Street). Perrysburg is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the southern border of that state with Indiana. The population was 10,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Cincinnati–Middletown, OH-KY-IN Combined Statistical Area. The first known inhabitants of Perrysburg were Native Americans who lived here before 1795 when French traders arrived in search of hardwood for their Wooden Ships built to navigate around the Great Lakes region. In 1802, General Anthony Wayne founded what would become Perrysburg after he won an important battle against British forces at Redstone Arsenal near modern day Cleveland. It was during this time that Wayne named his settlement for General George Washington - Mount Vernon Township. In 1814, Perrysburg became a part of Hamilton County and remained so until 1818 when it became part of Trumbull County due to its location on the then newly created line between those two counties (along with neighboring Lebanon). From 1818 until 1840, Perrysburg was within Trumbull County's unincorporated portions which are now parts of Delaware and Lawrence Counties in Pennsylvania; as well as West Chester Township in Ohio's Butler County. In 1840, Perrysburg merged with neighboring Lebanon to form what would become Lebanon Township (and later Jefferson Township). The township had a population of 575 by 1860 but decreased to 349 by 1870 due to increased competition from other townships within Trumbull and Hamilton Counties as well as from neighboring Clinton Township over land purchases made by Trumbull Commissioners John Hatch and Eli Whitney while they were serving onHamilton County commissionership during this time frame During this period there also existed a rivalry among various small communities along Interstate 80 between Lebanon Township residents who maintained their own roads/arteries while others followed I-80 for all purposes like receiving mail or service stations; these rivalries continue up through today's days with certain portions or villages within each township still maintaining separate roads etcetera
