By 1911, there were 3 businesses with over $5,000 in sales within one mile (1 km) of where High Street intersected US Highway 16: two restaurants and one grocery store; three insurance companies; four dry goods stores; two millinery stores; five furniture stores; three blacksmiths; two hotels; three churches (First Methodist Church, Second Methodist Church, Baptist church); four post office buildings along US 16 across from the high school (the first being built 1913); four service stations with more than 10 vehicles per day refueling at various times during their hours of operation between 1961 and 1978—one open 24/7—and six convenience stores serving food such as soft drinks, burgers, pizza etc.; sixteen properties comprising almost 322 acres (128 ha) east of downtown serving agriculture including sixty farms yielding an average yield of ninety bushels per acre (three tonnes/ha) since 1990 In January 2001 local voters passed a resolution authorizing annexation into Lima Township due to residents' desire for similar services available closer to home while still maintaining some form of municipal government separate from Lima Township police department and other village services located within Lima Township limits A referendum resulted in overwhelming approval allowing annexation on May 1st 2001 The townspeople name change has not been completed yet
